Does anybody commute from GVA to Nyon everyday?

Since I am one of the few that living in GVA, is instead working in Nyon, I was wondering if there is anybody else in the same position.

I usually take the train to work but i am not sure its the best way long term (and winter time especially)! Any suggestion or even carpooling proposal?

Cheers and a super New Year to all

Hi Gabriella!

Where about do you work in Nyon? I have been doing the same commute (Geneva-Nyon) for almost a year and a half and this is my opinion on the car vs train issue:

IF you live next to bus stop, on one of the main lines and your home-to train station-commute is not complex and less then 20mints ... I'd recommend taking the train. I had a Geneva-Nyon abbonament last year and it worked quite ok (plus you can deduct it from taxes).

This said, as I live outside of the city center in Geneva (around Balexert but not on any main road), my commute to work would vary between 25mints (when my boyfriend gave me a ride to the airport) to over 1h if I had to work past 7 in the evening (as the busses towards were i live are very irregular in the evening). So I bought a car. from March to November since I live really close to the highway the car is a blessing. I am at work in 30mints most days and the traffic is not bad at all. In winter chances of traffic are higher and the car is only 80% reliable (today I woke up and thanks to the snow it took me 20mints to reach the highway and another 25 to get to the office).

Re caarpooling, my experience is that it depends a lot on your working schedule and in which area of geneva you live. If both people have similar working time and the pick-up doesn't add another 20mints to the commute it can be quite nice :).

If you want to know more on the topic or want to explore car pooling possibilities send me an email here :)

Hello Gabriella,

The City of Geneva has set up a car-sharing website/forum for people wishing to carpool between Geneva-Vaud-France on a regular basis or for a particular event.

I have not tested the site personally, but have had positive feedback.

The site is in French, so if you are looking for a ride, you would post under "Demandes", whereas if you have space in your car, you would post under "Offres".

There are also company schemes, where a company can make it easier for colleagues to ride to the same workplace.

Hope this helps,

;D
