Got a knock on the door the other day from a double-glazing salesman. Who told me that there is a law about to come into effect on 31 January 2016 regarding compulsory double glazing in Geneva. I have chacked and this wasn't a cunning sales ploy - http://lenews.ch/2015/08/27/geneva-to-fine-homeowners-without-double-glazing/
We rent a small villa in Lancy - in winter it is perishingly cold as there is no roof insulation and the wooden, single 3mm glazed windows are about as thermally efficient as wet blotting paper. Sometimes it is warmer outside than inside and yes, you guessed it, we have oil-fired heating.
I presume that as tenants we are not responsible for installing double glazing, but would be very happy to have it installed by the Landlord (a large Swiss industrial and construction company who bought the property so they can knock it down in the future and build flats as part of an urban renewal project).
Does anyone have experience with the above? Would you think that the Landlord would be hoping that this issue gets forgotten about / be happier to pay the fines rathe rthat the costs of installing double glazing? Can they get around this law by saying that the property is earmarked for demolition?
Any advice would be greatfully received !
