Double Noise Fines - Vaud

Hi there,

We're living in Gland, and recently had a noise complaint against us, and received a callout from the police. The issue is, we received a fine first from the Gland police (which was immediately paid), and then a week later a further (slightly larger) fine from the Vaud cantonal police.

This seems like a case of being charged twice for the same offence, but has anyone had a similar experience, or can let me know how we can challenge the second fine for the same thing?

Thanks for considering,

Mark

Whatever did you do to get a noise fine?

Hi, there was too much noise, so no arguments there (hence paid the first fine). Good to hear that the double fine isn't a standard shared experience though!

Trying to call the Vaud police today to explain that we've already paid one fine to the Gland police, and if that fails I'll write a letter as you suggest David, thanks.

As a word to the wise in such situations, always confirm your telephone call to the police with a letter so as to have proof of your action just in case …

they will ask you if you've paid the 2nd fine. if you say "yes" then they will tell you too bad, and too late!

It seems that one payment was the fine itself, and the second one is the callout charge. They said on the phone that this can be queried/protested by letter, so going to a try that(referencing the phone call, thanks!).

It's just such a strange way to do things, if they'd combined the amounts and charged it as one fine/callout charge then so be it, but to pay one and then get another bill a week later feels a bit like a shakedown...

It’s probably two separate administrations, one local (Gland) the other cantonal (Vaud).

That, dear friend, is the way things are  “organized” in these parts.
