Driving teacher

Hello!

It is almast 1 year as I live in Switzerland, and soon I will have to retake a driving exam, as according to Swiss laws, non EU citizens can use their driving license max 1 year.

This year I used car not so often, maybe 1-2 times per month, I used Mobility car to make some shopping. Before taking an exam I want to take 1-2 lessons of driving with some good instructor, just to get know some specific issues, I may face while passing an exam.

Does anyone can advise me some good instructor not far from Gland or Nyon?

   Thanks in advance!

Best Regards, Sasha

Hi Sasha,

Nice to meet you, especially because I am also from Ukraine (Kiev) :-) This is a mobile number of the driving instructor I used myself before making a driving test here (also in Nyon area): 0796138696. I have taken 2 lessons and find it sufficient since I have 9 years practical driving experience. The cost is 120 CHF per hour with my own car, which is a regular cost here. The guy will probably propose you to accompany you during the test however to my opinion this is odd and you can refuse it.

Let me know in case of any other questions,

Good luck with the driving test :-)

Anna.

Just FYI, there is nothing odd about a driving instructor accompanying a pupil at a driving test. On the contrary, it is quite usual here and can even be useful in that there is an examiner/instructor network.

Hello Ritchie,

I referred to my particular case when the driving test here after 9 years of practical driving experience in Ukraine was more a formality and I did not consider reasonable to pay additional 200-300 CHF for the instructor to be with me during the test. Otherwise of course it is up to the individual to decide - you are perfectly right here, thank you for the remark.

Thank you for your input.

However, the concern of the Swiss authorities is that a candidate driver knows how to drive in Switzerland no matter how long he or she may have been driving elsewhere, and it is not at all uncommon for expats to fail the Swiss test the first time around, so congratulations on your own success.

Since the examiners know the local driving instructors,  a candidate accompanied by an instructor with a good track record stands a very fair chance of passing the test.  That you did so without such back up is to your credit but others may not be so fortunate.

What does surprise me is that you would have had to pay your instructor such a large sum for his presence at the test.  I have never heard of this before but perhaps others will say whether it’s the going rate these days.

Meantime, happy and safe driving in and around CH!
