We have spent a few winter holidays there in recent years. The diving is very good and if you're lucky with the wind, the windsurfing is excellent. The hotels in town can be very cheap, you can find accommodation ranging from very basic options through to more luxurious resort hotels. The beach hotels, Hilton, Swiss Inn etc are right on the beach, but are probably a bit more expensive than staying in town. Taxis are reasonably priced.

My friend in Dahab claims it is very safe there for tourists, and that there is no trouble. In spite of that, I won't be visiting Egypt this year. Can give you more specific info if you need it, just ask.

Super good info Amy, thanks a lot. That was exactly what I was looking for: diving, windsurfing and beach bumming.

I read there's yoga there as well, if you know of anything, I'd be please to know.

Does your friend runs a guesthouse or have a business in Dahab? Any chances of getting her contact?

Tksssss!!!!

Hey mate,

I agree with all that Amy mentioned above, just don't expect any sandy beaches, apart from a few spots, they are more of the rocky kind

Some of the hotels/hostels organize yoga-trips with bedouins to the more remote spots in Sinai like caves, canyons or small oasis.

About where to stay etc, there are a lot of different alternatives and general info here: www.dahab.net and here: http://www.dahab-info.com/. Also, most of the accomodation establishments, restaurants and nightspots have their own Facebook-page, which makes getting in contact way easier.

I can't really recommend one thing over the other, I have been to Dahab hundred of times and I only ever had good experiences, but if you need to know any specific info just ask.

Cheers.

I'm in Dahab right now, for the 2nd time, for some diving. The place is rather quiet right now but still very pleasant and relaxed, and warm! it's only 1h drive from SSH airport, I booked a driver with the hotel I'm staying at, transfer was hassle-free.

Just check the sites like tripadvisor and booking.com and pick the place that suits your wishes/budget. Make sure to check where your hotel is located as a few of them are a bit further out from the central area of the town.  I preferred to stay in the center so I can just walk around any time and not rely on taxi or hotel driver...

I'm also thinking about going to a sunny place in december, but i thought there is a war in Egypt? Isn't it dangerous to go there?

Anara, it's pretty safe around the Red Sea. It's better to fly straight to Sharm-el-Sheikh and avoid Cairo

Geojusto, will report about windsurfers in the coming days I arrived today :-)

Cheers

dahab is great really relaxed and chilled less stress and hassle than other towns.  some cool diving but no big fish, more reefs and small fish... the famous blue hole!!

Ok, after a few days here, I can report that the wind has been consistent every day, even quite strong today. I've seen a few windsurfers (4-5) the past 2 days, but saw mostly many kite surfers every day (10-20 at a time), in the bays north and south of the village (the center part is mostly used by divers).

Diving is just going great otherwise Cool

Cheers!
