Etat Civil for those from the UK

I'm leaving Geneva to go back to the UK next month and to release part of my pension I need to provide proof of my Single Marital Status.

In Switzerland this would be the Etat Civil, but does anyone know which document from the UK can be used?

Thanks

As far as i know there isn't a declaration of single status in the UK, you could try presenting your passport which presumably shows your title as 'Miss'?  Maybe in conjunciton with your birth certificate to show you haven't had a name change?

There is a declaration of single stauts in the UK, you have to visit a UK solicitor, declare that you are single and he will give you  proof. Very simple, ive done it before. If you are living in Switzerland you can get one from the gemeinde where you live.

Karl, I am Irish and I also need the same document to proceed with my naturalisation in Switzerland, I asked my embassy and they said they can’t, I asked my mairie and they said they cant. You mention ‘gemeinde’ which translates to parish, do you mean I go and ask the local church (I don’t go to any church here) James mentioned there would be ‘miss’ on my passport but it doesn’t! It seems to be the most tricky document to get!

Im not sure about Irish status, but im pretty sure it is the same in Ireland. You can go to the town hall where you live for the declaration of single status, in Switzerland. As i said in you simply visit a solicitor in Ireland or the uk and make a statement. They then produce a signed afadavit to that effect. This is valid anywhere in Europe. I hope this helps.

The town hall (mairie) said as i was not Swiss they can do nothing for me. I wont be in Ireland in the near future, i suppose that will bemy last resort to ring my family solicitor in Ireland and see if i can do it from here.

Isn’t there a Public Registrar of Births, Marriages and Deaths in Ireland?

They should be able to provide you with an official declaration.

Best, R.

I think it all depends where you have been a resident. I understood from your mail you were moving away from Switzerland to Ireland. Swiss or not this document is avaialble in the place you live. In the UK as  I said you go to your solicitor. I think it has to be done in person, as you have to swear a decleration of staus to yoru solicitor. I had to go to the Uk to do this.

I hope this helps. So not the church, either the municipal administration or the embassy.

I did this recently for another reason.

What you need is an:

Affadavit - Declaration of civil status.

For Brits, it is here:

https://www.clickbook.net/dev/bc.nsf/sub/britishconsulatebern?OpenDocument&cb_referer#.Us6shBAlibg

You have to go to book an appointment and go in person to the consulate in Bern with Passport, Work Permit and the long version of the birth certificate (orderable on line)

For an irish citizen, the same is definitely available otherwise no Irish person could be married in Switzerland.
