Expat insurance for frontalier

Hi,

I appologize if this topic already came up and I was not able to find it...

I am from Austria and was living in Switzerland till this week (so I was insured with Assura). Now I moved to France and I am wondering what to do with my health insurance.

I know that France changed the system and that you have to choose either the French CMU (I know all about how it's calculated and that it only covers the basic stuff and you need a complementary insurance) or the Swiss LAMAL (I know that the cheapest LAMAL is Progres from Helsana, and I have a quote already).

Since I'm a PhD student, my salary is not really high. So if I look at the premium for the LAMAL and the caluclation of the CMU (even if they take 10-12%), the CMU is still the cheaper option.

But now, I started to hear about private insurance companies specialised on expatriates. People working in Switzerland, living in France, but not having French nationality. Companies like Globality, Amariz, WinHealth. They offer good healthcare to a reasonable price. And I am wondering if this system is still possible to choose, or if this option disapeard with the switch in the French system.

Thank you very much for your help!! I'm really confused and would like to make an informed decision before spending a fortune on health care each month !!

According to the new French laws they require everyone living in France regardless of nationality to buy into the CMU. U can go for a cheaper option if u don't plan to live here for a long time. Otherwise they'll catch u sooner or later.
