External Hardrive for Macbook Pro

I have apparantly used every ounce of free space on my hardrive.

Seems I have several connection types - USB, Firewire, eSATA..

other than USB this sounds like Latin to me.. Any recommendations?  I download tv shows and music, nothing special goes on other than my schoolwork.

Also where to buy? Should i just go to the apple store, or try places like fust?

Thanks =)

The best place for buying all things computer in Geneva is www.1000ordi.ch.  You can buy it online or just go to the shop across the street from La Praille mall.  I checked and found this http://www.1000ordi.ch/62388 drive for 95 CHF.  It's 1 TB, USB 3.0 and small 2.5" compact size.  I bet you will save a lot of money here versus going to the apple store.

The Apple does not work with USB 3.0.

You can go with either a Mac specific model (more expensive) that supports firewire or you can go with a regular generic Mac/PC model with USB 2.0 that is just a bit slower than firewire but a LOT cheaper.

Since you are doing movies, look at either Mediamarkt or Interdiscount for a special on a 1 or 1,5 TB model. Should pay about CHF 100 for 1 TB.

Just be sure to check on the package that it supports Mac. You will then need to format the drive for Mac. Not a problem but takes a couple of minutes.

Sorry to hijack the thread - but do you guys have any suggestions for external hard drives for a non-threatening PC,  a little ASUS netbook?

Cheers

apple does work with USB 3.0, it just steps down to 2.0 speeds.

Lexi, go for price. JC has good info, I also use prodimex.ch which is virtually next door.

@ariel there is nothing really special about hard disks. get the same 1.0 TB disk that JC mentioned.

Hi Lex: If you are usually around reliable, high-speed internet, you could move a lot of your data online.

For example, on:

- Mobile Me: (by Apple), you could try a 60 day evaluation
- Cloud Me: (pc on a cloud) you could have a free 3GB account
- Drop box: you could have a free 2GB account

(There are many, many more)

And switch to the paid version of any of the above, if you require, once you've tested them/outgrown your needs (or buy a hard disk). Wink These can also help you access files from most devices including mobiles, anywhere that you are connected to the internet.
