Feedback on SPRING-FEVER PARTY

Spring-Party Pictures (thanks Extremal!)

==================================

Im one of the guys who organised the glocals.com & Sindy party last night.

Big thanks to the 1500 guests who partied with us, and a special personal thanks to the people who helped us make the night happen.

We'd love to to hear your feedback on the party - what was good, & what can be improved.

Here's the 3 key things we already plan to improve for next time:

1. Be firmer about stopping the entrance earlier (or be prepared for larger crowds)
We expected and prepared for 1000 guests. When 1500 guests showed up, we were - frankly - overwhelmed. A full house led to a wild ambience, but it also led to long wait outside & at the bars, heat (Im still sweating...), stressed security, & a cloack-room that could not service everyone.

2. Manage the 'no smoking' policy better.
The big room was no-smoking. We created a smoking corner in the chillout room, which slowly 'expanded' into the entire entrance area, so that every person coming in / out of the party passed throgh a cloud. We should have put the smoking area in the back (not in the front...), or in a totally seperate room.

3. Have less animations
We think (what do you think?) that all the animations we had (the 'regular' DJs, the Bollywoon DJ, fashion show, drummers band, Limbo, Balloon drops) may have cut some of the natural flow of a party.

Thanks for your feedback,

Nir

Great party guys!

There was Limbo contest? When? Ahh I guess I missed than one...

I think the animations were a good idea and helped make this party special. The drummers in the beginning - nice touch, it helped warm up the atmosphere.

The improvements I would like to see are more personnel at the bars and a larger "quiet" area when people can have a drink and talk away from the speakers.

Now if you'll excuse me I'll go back to sleep, I had a long night!

What a venue!  What a party!  I'm quite happy my original weekend trip was 'rained out', otherwise to have missed this party would've been such a shame.  The moment you step into the place the balloon decorations and the whole setup was by far the most impessive since I've joined.  and soooooo many people showed up!! At this rate that we're going, I don't think future parties can be held anywhere else but big halls such as last night's!!

Having 2 separate styles of musics was fantastic. I could see everyone was enjoying in the salsa room, and even I got to spin around a bit (thanks Xavi!).  And Ehsaan, I saw many people starting to jiggy with your mix of music. I expect to see lots of people coming to your event next week!! Hope it's a big enough venue :)

I agree about the samba team's performance not being on the stage. such a shame i couldn't see any of it.  And the fashion show.. what a fun idea. You gals looked gorgeous struttin on the catwalk!  Too bad you don't get to keep your dresses :P

I just hope with all the decore and everything else that went in to put this spring party on, we have something left over for the charity.   Great great job guys. enjoy this lovely sunny sunday.

What a venue! It was really well chosen.

Personnaly, I found the music a bit loud. It makes keeping conversations difficult - not to mention group conversations. It makes also much more difficult to engage a conversation with a stranger.

Concerning smoking: next time, you'll probably don't have to worry about it as the ban on smoking in public places will be in force.

Animations: I agree with you. The best animation is the people attending.

Limiting entrances: maybe a different price policy could help. A more expansive entrance fee, counterbalanced by cheaper drinks at the bar (I was a bit surprised to see the vodka smirnoff at 12.- ...)

Great location etc.

One big comment though. It was WAY TOO warm, I was breaking sweet without even moving.... not pleasant. Made me and a few other people leave early despite the evening being good, so a real pity as it was otherwise a very good evening.

I also agree the different activities on stage broke the flow of the party to a certain extent.

Good going though

I have to agree with everyone who mentioned the heat thing! I was melting in there and that was weird, considering the size of the terrific venue. I also agree about the slightly overpriced bar and the long waiting time. On the other hand, the drumming tempo events were great (I don't feel like the party was interrupted by any of these), the fashion show was fun (it's interesting how someone can get into character so easily :-P ) and I believe that there was a place for everyone (I do believe though that many people would prefer a place to chill out with soft and low music and the chill-out room was way too small).

About the smoking issue, I think it's not gonna be an issue next time and boy am I glad to know that:) I had friends who were smelling the smoke everywhere, as if people were actually smoking inside the venue and not only in the entrance. I know that was not the case, but allowing people to smoke in an adjacent space with no good ventilation led smoke inside as well. Next time, let the smoking place be outside:)

Other than that, had fun! :w00t:

I agree with everything that's been said (not enough bar staff, bigger quiet area), but especially the heat. Honestly it was ridiculous - I know many people who left early because of it ... I wish I had too, seeing the pictures today of myself looking like some vile sweaty monster! ;-)

Excellent party apart from that though.

Dear friends,

let me start first saying that without Nir's job (by saying Nir I also mean the people involved in the organisation) we wouldn't be here talking.....and i't impressive the way Nir helped us in having so much fun in the last 4.5 years. So much energy spent to have GLOCALS to meet and to have fun is Just unique....

Considering the number of people involved couldn't be an idea to have a GLOCALS bar where people could meet more often? a little bit of an italian happy hour with good music and the creativity touch of the GLOCALS?....just throwing it there....maybe 1 day it will happen.....again Nir thank you

PARTYING WITH PAPA NIR!

What a fantastic night/morning! I met Syd Brown (who is the sweetest, sexiest guy, girls don't hesitate!) and danced with lots and lots of friends.  The shows were fun and the mood was really right. Thought more people would come dressed like Spring, but I guess there are shy people out there. No worries, with the music and dance floors, it looked like everyone was jammin'.

Looked for you Extremal but missed out on that one. Next time!

To the girl whose water I spilled, I'm really sorry...I went to buy you another one and couldn't find you again.

Thanks again for all the efforts made for a  GREAT EVENING!

Mary

Hi Nir.

First, many thanks for organizing the party. It was very well organized, and the venue was very appropriate.

I agree, the animations were a bit too much, although as is a well-known fact I never complained about looking at pretty girls posing (partly) for my benefit ;)

I personally did not enjoy the music -particularly the Indian part. Music in general sounded very outdated..It seems that wherever I go, I hear the same stuff over and over again..we should have some more variety..there are some amazing bands out there playing all kinds of stuff!!

Other than that, it is always great to see familiar faces keeping GOL alive!

Thanks again to all you guys for organizing.

Ciao, Lazz

The venue was much better and I enjoyed the fact there was also a smaller room with Salsa. Drinks were much better than at the Xmas party.

However, people in this kind of parties are staying with their friends and if you come (like I did) with 1 friend it is impossible to meet new people... and if you're alone it's even worst.

I've been to several Glocals/ Sindy parties and to be honest it's been the same and I keep telling myself that next one will be better but once again I've been desapointed.

What a great party...! A Big thanks to Nir and all who made it happen.

Good music and good crowd... It was really a great night...

The bars has to be extended with servers and some open air.... the most disgusting was the toilets.

Yep, eerie Extremal! Sure it was me?

Anyhow, I saw TARTIFLETTE'S posting and just would like to say She is right about how cool would it be to do some icebreakers during such a party. Otherwise it is too clickish and shy lonely people end up wondering around the rooms, then going home. Ideas:

  • Wear a name badge and let people post you messages on a huge screen (e.g. "Hello Marmark! Like your bunny ears, hop over here for a dance, signed Extremal").
  • Sell off your friends to anyone willing to pay the price (with fake vouchers).

I am sure there are lots of other possibilities, not obligatory for everyone who comes to the party but open for those who want to meet new people. Keeping up the friendly glocals spirit!

Re: Feedback on SPRING-FEVER PARTY
Post 25

Keeping up the friendly glocals spirit![/quote]

I like the ideas above! I had a great time, thanks Nir. I was a bunny, not because I am shy, but because I went alone and wanted to meet a lot of people, albeit briefly. But I met quite a few of my friends there, had a good boogie, came away smelling of smoke, met extremal and syd_brown for the first time - great guys, fantastic spirit!, got to know Nir a bit better (I had added years to him from a recent bug {electronic, I must add, not biolgical!}).

I loved the venue, personally. I know we ran out of welcome drinks and garlands, but that was due to the larger than expected crowds.

first of all: WONDERFUL PARTY!!! wonderful place, lots of people, lots of different animation...

then let's go with the details:

I liked very much the presence of the SALSA room: a good place to meet new people

I also liked very much the lounge area (the one with chairs and umbrellas) even if I had to wait for a long time until I was able to get a chair

animation in general was good, but there were too many things "to see" and too few things "to do"

a special thank to Extremal, Syd_brown and MarmarK for the +++topless, bottomless+++ etc...

Things to improve for the next time: I think that just offering people a flower ring and a free drink is not enough to make them interacting with each other. We could start an "ice breaking team" and gather some ideas for the next party (I can take the task of organizing this group).

Where was the free drink?? I didn't get one??

Any how, pretty cool party, even if I did here those java-esque songs a few times too many... 'rise up' ' world hold on' 'rock this party' ...

Loved the balloons...and stage dancing...and general good fun. Looking forward to the summer one, maybe with a little more air con ;)

THANK U to the organisers x

I keep hearing about the heat and the smoke... These things are almost inevitable when you have such a crowd. I don't think there's one single building in the area that can handle that many people without problems, except maybe CERN's underground accelerator cooled with liquid nitrogen (Nir, can you check for next time ;) )! If you go to the SIP it's HOT and SMOKY all the time and yet no one is complaining and people keep coming back.

For a party that's held once a year I don't think it's such a big issue.

Anyways, the summer is almost here, see you all at the open-air summer partieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees!

Ciao,

catalin

First of all, thank you Nir and of course thanks to all the people who made this wonderful party happen... can't wait to see the pictures!

I really enjoyed the party but you're right about the 3 key things you want to improve, the other thing that didn't go well are the toilets... no more paper toilet at midnight...

Anyway I'm looking forward to the Sindy beach parties :w00t:

A GREAT, HUGE, ENORMOUS THANK YOU to all of you guys for organising this fantastic Spring bash!!! :w00t:

The decoration, and the balloons looked fab, especially when they were all thrown on the dance floor!!

Beautiful location, and great idea to have 2 rooms, too !

My comment is that putting the smokers' area at the entrance was indeed not the best place (I am a non-smoker, and each time going to the bar or the Ladies crossing this cloud was murder...).

A note on the Ladies: why the hell were there only 3 WC open out of 9?? We had to do McGyver and open the other ones with keys or whatever we could find, since the queue was sooooo long!

Looking forward to the Summer parties!!

Thanks for everything guys!

I've had an excellent night!

I was quite surprised to see people come so early (it's a good thing)... At 23, the corridors were already almost full!

The two rooms, the deco, the fashion show (and the models), the shows, the limbo contest, the drummers and the jazz-rock orchestra were all great.

About the heat, I think it had something to do with the hormones, and not the venue. Being topless was a good option, though. ;)

I didn't mind about the smoke: it buffered the natural emanations due to the ambient heat.

A special thank for MarmarK who came with a bikini! Good job, Gorgeous! ;)

Syd, who's already looking forward to the summer parties...

thanks Nir for organizing it! I personally loved it. And I love the fact the despite Glocals being a spin off of Sindy (and you know I love Glocals) sindy party stay the same. Nice, Friendly BIG parties where we can go with friends, meet ppl you know and haven't seen in a while, chit chat IF you want .. have a drink and DANCE DANCE DANCE. Just like gooing to a club with a way nicer atmosphere!! I love it. Might make me unpopular but there are tons of 'warm up' activities before the big party to go to and meet new ppl and then have some 'friends' to have fun dancing at the sindy party.

Reg Smoke, I came in early so i didn't have to go throught the 'cloud' and couldn't really smell it. Yes it was hot .. but that was expected .... I cannot comment on the activities nor the music since i was part of one activity myslef and spent more then 1h in the basement getting ready for it !

Looking forward the summer ones!

Nir, as usual the party was greeaaatttttttttt... It was really nice to kick off the summer with the yearly friendly Spring fever party !

Nothing major but just a couple of remarks:

  • Bar should all have the same drinks (it's a pity to wait 10-15 minutes and realize that they did not have such or such drinks (who said water?))
  • Activities like the drums and dancers should have happen on stage (it was difficult for short people to see them ;o)
  • The main entrance was really "foggy" at some point (even being a smoker), clear ventilated area should be defined
  • Even if it's not their "role", security people could have been nicer (specially at the end of the party)

Anyway, the party was really nice and I can't wait for the coming summer parties!

Thanks a million for organizing and take care.

Thanks for all the feedback from everyone, much appreciated.

To summarise all we've read, next party we'll focus on improving:

  • Stopping the entrance earlier.
  • Ensuring it doesn't get so hot. Here's a killer: when I shared the feedback about the heat with the venue's owners, they said "oh, no problem. Next year we'll just turn off the heating". ^%^%^!!!! Turned out the heater was turned on the whole night! I didn't know if to laugh or cry when the guy told me that.
  • Ensure the smoking corner (if there is one) is better isolated.

There was also an interesting point brought up about doing 'ice breaking' stuff during the party, to make it easier for people to interact with others. We love the idea, and do some of these things in our smaller events. But we learned that at these mega parties - with over 1000 people - it's very hard to do such stuff. Any specific ideas - that are simple to execute and that can work in a room with 1000 jumping people with music and drink - more than welcome.

Thanks again for all the feedback!

Lowering the volume of the music is not enough to break the ice, but I  see it as a necessary condition. How to engage a conversation with your neighbour when you hardly hear each other ?

that doesn't work - loud music is a must have for those who want to dance.

Having a chill-out zone will help (well, there was one at the party). From what I remember, I talk to people at all parties, although to the people I know, so it's not about "engaging a conversation" with a total stranger.
