I get really depressed by the fact that when I open my mailbox each afternoon, all I ever seem to get is bills. My family and friends back in Aus say that they miss me, but do they ever write letters to me? Nope (slackers!). It sometimes got hard to resist ordering books from Amazon, just so I could find something nice in the mail for a change.
For me postcrossing has been the solution. I send off postcards to random strangers across the globe, and then other random strangers send me cards. Its a kind of Glocals in postcard form! It isn't a commercial site, and there is no money involved beyond the cost of buying and sending the occasional postcard. I ask people to send me their favourite recipes too, so I get to find out about food from all over the world too (as well as getting ideas of destinations that I want to visit).
So, if like me, you are sick of just seeing "facture" stamped on your mail, take a look at postcrossing.
