Finding an apartment

Hey all

I'm going to be looking for a new apartment in the first quarter of 2015 and wondered if anyone could provide me with the first few steps for how to get the ball rolling.

I've just scanned the forums and the guides and surprised i've not come up with anything. I'm not too keen to use a relocation agent because of the cost but i'd be interested to hear of peoples recomendations/experiances in this area too.

I'm aware it's not an easy process and there are plenty of horror stories but it;s something i'm going to have to go through so any help or advice is welcomed.

Thanks in advance

James

James - did your scan thru the forums and guides include the classifieds ? Under real estate there are 520 entries.

A rather roundabout way is to look for the list of Regie's in Geneva and the large ones have their appartments put up on their websites. Some of them admittedly are dated and may not be updated regularly. Despite the long route you will find loads of decent postings.

That should get you started. Use their names to find out their website on Google and check them for postings.

hey all

This is all really useful stuff.

What i'm really surprised about so far is the lack of pictures and just information in general, i'm used to doing this in the UK with sites like rightmove and this is world apart!

Thanks though, any further advice would be welcomed.

Here, nothing operates as it does in the UK or even the other Swiss cantons.

Geneva has its own rather insular character

and all expats have to serve the apprenticeship of adapting to the foibles of the local “system”.

Don’t despair.  Most Brits manage to cope very well and then suddenly everything falls into place.

All the best, R.
