Flat hunting/Apartment searching in Geneva/Vaud

Dear all,

I thought we could start, if anything, a support group for those struggling to find a flat in Geneva or surrounding areas.

Which regies have you had good/bad experiences with?

If you need someone to be your co-applicant (I have found it impossible to get a 2 bedroom flat as a single person), could we do each other favors by co-applying for flats?

When to go to Asloca, an organization that protects the rights of tenants?

Facts you wish you had known before applying, accepting or declining a flat. For instance I turned down a gorgeous flat months ago after the regie decided to increase the price by 250 CHF per month AFTER I had been granted the flat. When I challenged them they told me it was no longer mine. I was told by a Swiss person that I should have signed the lease and THEN contested the price, and they would have had to charge me the original price.

So, who would like to join?

Julie (still homeless and living with my ex and when I can't take it, couch surfing at friends'...)

There is of course another option : you come and live here in France. Less complicated, more availability, fewer rules and regulations and much lower prices. Many people commute by the 07.00 or the 08.20 from Evian each day, returning on the 17.15 in the evening. Good luck anyway

Even as a Swiss I encountered a same problem as you did. Not all regies are crooks but many have unqualified behaviours.

I also had to expatriate in France - as many Swiss citizens do - by lack of proper accommodation in the Geneva region.

Honestly, I wouldn't say everything is perfect and cheaper. This is not the case. But at least if you have a CDI (job contract without a termination period) you can find a flat or even a house this side of the border.

Hi guys, I have a question about living in France. I am student from India, I hold a B Swiss residential permit right now. Can I live in Ferney Voltaire (France) on the Swiss border? Im unsure but yes rates seem to be much better there.

Thanks in advance
