For Americans: Happy Patriots' Day!

Today in 1775, the Battles of Lexington and Concord were fought, and with it the official start to the American Revolutionary War and the "shot heard 'round the world".

I was raised in Concord, Massachusetts and so today is very near and dear to my heart. I remember the parade which passed by my home every year. I remember the people from Acton, Bedford, Lincoln, Lexington, Concord, Carlisle, Sudbury, etc. who dressed up as minutemen and marched in the parade. I remember the re-enactments. I remember the pancake breakfast (yum!).

In short, it was a great childhood memory and so I always remember it fondly.

Happy Patriots Day Smile from a northern neighbor born in the land from which your country liberated itself from a state of taxation without representation.

There is another anniversary, one that is less pleasant but well worth remembering since it still resonates today in the US and was the bloodiest war with greatest total number of soldiers killed and greatest number per capita as well because of the small population.  The civil war.

Speaking of Americans.. Zonker do you have any idea where I can get an easter ham??? Finding a turkey at Thanksgiving is hard, now it seems the quest for a ham is just as difficult!

Well many, myself included, would argue that we still have taxation still without representation or at least pathetic representation or unequal representation on all sides of the political party spectrum.  However that's a rather subjective opinion painting with too broad a brush.

Anyways despite all our difficulties these days in the Western world, we've got it pretty good and Patriots' Day seems like a good enough reason to count one's blessings and celebrate.
