For or against your street view?
last week I had a appointment for a job -by the way, I'm still searching a job/internship for 6 months starting from january - (sorry for the ad) :-)) .the place was a private home somewhere in Lausanne I had never been. So the day before the appointment, I checked it on google street view to know a bit how the place look like. then I prepared everything in the night, before going to the bed. on the d-day, I woke up on time, left home on time and took my train from Geneva on time. But when I arrived in Lausanne, I noticed I had forgotten a small but crucial paper: the one on which I had mentionned the address of the job place!!! and all I was remembering is that the place is somewhere on Avenue de France and that is it!more, the phone number I could use to call "the boss" was also written on that "small" piece of paper. and I knew I left it in my room and I could call my roommates to the rescue, but my room was locked! DAMN!!!Since I knew the name of the street (Av. de France), I started by asking my way to passers-by, who nicely explained how I could reach Av. de France. in the bus,I sat in front and asked to the driver to let me know when we will reach Av. de France.sadly he told me there were many bus stops on that Av. and he asked me which one would suit me...no answer! COMPLETELY LOST! but after thinking a few second, I replied nicely "I'll tell you...just show me the Av. once you get there". in fact I was thinking I would recognize the building I had seen on google street view. and when the driver told me we were on Av. de France, I watched carefully, and identified the building without any doubt! Finally I was on time to the appointment, did my job and had a great day! THE END, folks :-))NOW, CAN ANYONE GIVE ME A GOOD REASON TO OBJECT TO GOOGLE STREET VIEW?

Yes, i do. Coming from the U.K.and seeing how far such things are taken i.e. London being the most watched capital on earth.
There this has warped law enforcement/making ,lead to erosion of puplic freedoms and associated pettiness .It is not i feel a good thing for the individual, or for the soul......,hard to legislate for the soul i know ,but............. This and most forms of passive populace observation are wrong and unneeded in most cases............Just because you can, dosen't mean you should?
Remember no sizable country specific puplic survey's asking 'wouldn't this be a good idea, wouldn't you like this as a service',was ever asked ,or any answer waited for......we were pitched and sold it - as a tool, for us ......always beware the cold caller!
I'm no David Ike ,although i loved his breakfast work....he..he.,i just think why to some of the things given to us.
I'm glad you found your job interview though.

i think that google streetview is a very useful tool and can help in daily life.
google helps the people on those pictures who can be clearly identified and have a privacy issue with it, by making the faces or as mentioned before car plates etc. unrecognizable.
i never understood the big concern about street view privacy while we all know that every day in newspapers and on the web hundreds of pictures of crowds of people are being published.

It was alright until they added the "tag yourself and your friends" feature.

I agree with most of what you say, but do you think our use of this tool was the driving factor , why dose a multinational pulic company want detailed photo's of eveybody's property etc,and one that is being held on a public database with little or no governmental objection.Stange when parent's can't take pictures of their kid's on sport's day! i wonder what would happern if you drove a van with a big camera set up onto the grounds of Goggle HQ? might they cry - invation of privacy?

you have a valid point here. we are also talking about private property and that due to the high camera positions we can get deep insights into people's backyards, on balcony's etc.. and then hey, i haven't really checked out embassy's, consulates or the national bank yet. how do they handle this?
:-)
