Hi, I'd like three tickets please.

I just arrived in Geneva with my son who speaks no french and is attending a Swiss school. He's traumatized and I'm hoping loud rhythmic noise will help him snap out of it.

Thank you.

(i never said I could read directions well....)

OK, two then. My wife and I will decide who takes the kid.....

Oh, plus his name is Nikita which everyone in US, Germany and Russia knows is a boy's name, but one of the first questions we heard here was "Nikita? Isn't that a girl's name?" Even when I remind them of Nikita Khrushev, people just blink vapidly....

I would be most thrilled to be awarded 2 tickets (or even 1 for that matter), as I enjoy Asian culture, percussions, and have not had the opportunity to experience what i've been told to be a 'heart-pounding' experience...

much thanks for your consideration

2 tickets please. One for myself and one for my husband. He has said he would like to see them and it would mean a quiet evening away from our 2 adorable children!! I say quiet as I'm sure my 2 sons could compete with the noise level!!

I grew up in Africa to the soundtrack of pulsating African drums. My formative years are filled with the throbbing, rythmic sounds of talking drums. The sounds that fill the memories of my home with intensity, zeal, adventure and depictions of brave hunters like Shaka Zulu and and fast runners from the highlands of Kenya. Sounds that have dictated the gait of my walk, the fervor of my dancing, the lilt of my accent ... a sound that plays in my head through my most passionate moments, stirring in me a steady and ungovernable fervor, a kaleidoscope of emotions and desires that lift and drop to the sound of the beating drums, culminating in a climactic finish that leaves me all shivering and with goosebumps all over my body ... it is a sound to make love to.

Ok ... got carried away ... but you get the gist. Am a drum junkie. Please give me two tickets so i can share what should be an equally sensual experience with a friend (or lover ;) ). Please.

i'd like two tickets if possible.

i'm working on a research project at the conservatory designing augmented percussion instruments. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JiyWR4VeLp8) and basically, I go to see every percussion concert that I can to check out different percussive techniques, to gather ideas for potential future performances, and to meet the performers and tell them about what we're doing. um... although i get paid for this now, i spent two years working with different percussionists for free in berlin, just because for me this is one of the most exciting things to do in the world...

I'd like two tickets please.

My girlfriend, who is Japanese, will be visiting me from September 8 to 25 and I want to show her that even in Geneva I remain thinking about her and the far east. Besides that, I am a professional player of "cajon", a traditional Peruvian percussion instrument created by African slaves to cheer their lives up during the slavery in Peru. Unfortunately my girlfriend has never seen me playing "cajon" because I never took it from Peru. But I want this Yamato event to be our fist contact together with Japanese drums.

I'd really like 2 tickets as 11 september is my birthday and there is always something terrible on that day.  My birthday shares the same day as the 9/11 hijacking, the death of Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh and the birth of Little House On The Prairie.  The pain I feel on this day is terrible so the drumming would help me to forget all that and bring some joy to a day i normally dread.

Good-evening.  I will be happy to get tickets for the concert, as I am desperate for my husband to see that the world is not just work and food cooking, but drumming in a rhythm and with passion.  TRuly, I want it to be a surprise for him if I get one, as he thinks that to play drums is not a big deal.  And I think you are cool if you play drums in the amount of 10 or more at the same time.  WOW, i can imagine how it sounds like:w00t: cheers

I NEED two tickets.

My wife is close to a nervous breakdown now that our two girls have started school again and me being home in between two jobs. A night out listening to Japanese drums would hammer all that stress out and save my lovely wife from going insane.

Thank you

I would love to have two ticket.

I am Japanese but I've never seen Yamato in my life. It's shamefull !!

Being in Geneva for nealy 9 years, people ask me about Japanese culture, but I don't really know about it. So it will be a good educational opportunity for me :)

2 tickets please, because:

1) my wife is pregnant, and we found out today it's a girl!

2) If chosen, I will take my shirt off, drum on the salad spinner and run around the flat while singing, 'Domo Arigato, 2 for Yamato'

Hi people in charge of this great site!

There is not any reason why I should get 2 tickets, or no more than anyone else as I cannot think of anything funny to say but I thought I 'd try all the same, just in case.

So good bye for now and if you can't decide and have too many spare ones, just throw a couple of tickets in my direction. It seems like good fun.

If you think Karaoke is funny, see Yamato instead and save some money :w00t:

Besides You'd save some people getting their ears bleeding from my singing. I'd be thrilled to win 2tickets. Thanks! R

ok.. for the many new members who recently joined Glocals.. firstly WELCOME! great to see hundreds joining each week. and now let me explain to you when Site Admin says to explain 'WHY you should get the free ticket(s)', that means you have to CONVINCE the judges (which is Opus1) 'why YOU should win the tickets.'

Let me recap some great postings that have made top prizes for some great events:

You see, some go through the arduous task of creating and posting on YouTube why he deserves to win tickets to see Kyle:

Or creating a whole intricate webpage dedicated to Kyle:

Others go out of the way to buy a police outfit just to win tickets to the Police concert:

Ta'taka Ta'taka Ta'taka Ta'taka Ta'taka Ta'taka Ta'taka Ta'taka Ta'Ta'Ta'TA'TA HO'PP!!!

reverberates all throughout your entire body, and before you realize it, you're actually receiving a burst of energy that leaves you almost hypnotized & invigorated.

2. I've been meaning to go to fnac to buy the tickets, but have been bogged down at work, connecting with Glocalers during lunch hours, attending to my bosses demands, and

3. I just got back from attending a Summer Garden charity event where it poured s & s!!!!

The entry ticket$ were not cheap, and ontop of it, I had an epileptic moment where my hand flinched up during an auction and I ended up putting my credit card down for few hundred more quids to have the privilege of meeting the Lord of (not really sure), and the event's not even based in Switzerland... All for a good cause mind you, but I'm feeling the pinch now that i've sobered up :pinch: . thus winning 2 tickets would really make my day! :D

The text you are quoting:
ok.. for the many new members who recently joined Glocals.. firstly WELCOME! great to see hundreds joining each week. and now let me explain to you when Site Admin says to explain 'WHY you should get the free ticket(s)', that means you have to CONVINCE the judges (which is Opus1) 'why YOU should win the tickets.'

Let me recap some great postings that have made top prizes for some great events:

You see, some go through the arduous task of creating and posting on YouTube why he deserves to win tickets to see Kyle:

http://www.glocals.com/forums/Topic46047-77-1.aspx

Or creating a whole intricate webpage dedicated to Kyle:

http://loginov.web.cern.ch/loginov/glocals.com/KylieAnnMinogue.html

Others go out of the way to buy a police outfit just to win tickets to the Police concert:

oi vei.. slight editing glitch there... but it reinforces the fact that my glocal-holic sypmtoms are getting progressively worse and with my sleep deprivation, i really could use a wake up call with the sounds of the drum beating...

(siteadmin.. we NEED editing features. pleeeze raise this as priority numero uno!)

My next door neighbour has a drum kit and is always practising - I get no peace. It would be great if I could get these tickets so I could get away from the noise for an evening.

Two tickets would be fab if possible :)

Many thanks

Hello,

3 years ago I had an operation that scared the s#$% out of me. An unforeseen side effect of the incident was the unfortunate occurance of music constantly playing (at a low volume) in my ears. The songs are classic in nature and there are four of them that play in a loop fashion one after the other. I have sort assistance from the medical profession but with no success. The worst times are when there is silence around me as the music appears louder. When sounds around me are louder I can barely hear the songs playing. I would love to win tickets to Yamoto with the hope of doing at least one of the following.

1 - replacing the four sound tracks in my head with some new music

2 - getting rid of the sounds altogether.

If you could help me out I would be most grateful and very relieved.

Two tickets would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Me and my husband are Dutch. We came here three months ago. There's all kinds of cheeses here, but no Gouda. That is shocking.

Also, I found out there's nowhere I can go where they can repair our wooden shoes... And on top of it all: there aren't any windmills around here! Its frightning! Not to mention the fact that everywhere I look, there's a mountain standing in the way of my view!

Maybe if we go to this show, we'll understand Geneva. I'm sure that looking at Japanese performers in a Swiss city where the most people speak french, but all the foreigners speak english and their own language, might help. That is...they do drum in english, do they. Or is it subtitled?  ;)

Love,

Danielle

Hi!

My best friend has his birthday on 17th and would like to pass an original evening for her!

I like the sound at the drums and I have never see a spectacle like this. It could be a new experience and discovery.

so, I would like to have 2 tickets to enjoy this party!

Have fun

Hi tickets holder,

I don't know if these are the funniest/most interesting reasons but I'll give it a try anyway.

Reason # 1. I have never won something for free in my life (and I'm running out of time and luck), and it has to happen one day.

Reason # 2. I love Japanese culture, I practice origami (if I get the tickets I could give you in return a master yoda made out of a single piece of paper), I've watched Manga/Anime since I was a little kid (I have a nice collection, ready to be shared), I like martial arts, Japanese music, samurais, video games, technology, comics and, off course, sushi. (I didn't want to mention that I get amused by animated violence and unreal perfect animated bodies, there, I said it)

Reason # 3. Even if I'm proud of Reason # 2, I'm fully aware that you may think by now that I'm a geek, but actually I have a real life away from my computer, and also a girlfriend. She is supposed to arrive to Geneva next Tuesday, she is coming from the States, and we will start living together for our first time. It would be a nice surprise if we can go together to this concert (that means I would need to tickets).

Thanks,

Juan

Hello,

I study japanese art history and japanese language and I am really interested in every part of japanese culture. I heard of the Yamato group and always wanted to see them.

It would be a great opportunity for me to see this concert, and maybe bring my boyfriend along if it was possible to receive 2 tickets.

Thank you!

Elisa

Now into year 6 of my Midlife  reassessment (crisis) and need an injection of energy to get me through the next year,The Japanese Yamato drummers , not so much a night out but more therapy for a tired soul. If you can spare 2 tickets that would be nice, if not 1 would also be appreciated. Many thanks for the offer.

I am not Japanese, so cant use that line... neither am I a drummer nor do I have problems with a wife who drums me (yet).. but am certainly a fan of percussions...

to make the post interesting (and surely not to influence the draw) - my grandfather was a 'Mridangam' (Carnatic classical style) performer in the Palace of Maharaja of Mysore (Southern Inda)... the inheritance he left me is love for the music.

one ticket please,

Srinath

Drums...they speak to my soul, which I'm pretty sure is japanese!

Or.

I used to be african until I heard the Yamato preview... I'm convinced that my home lies somewhere in Kyoto!

Or

If you don't give me the tickets I'm suing my parents for not being born Japanese! now would you want that on your concience?

Ok last try...

Those drums remind me of african rain dancers... Ever heard a story of an african rain dancer? Well... you won't be hearing it hear

My initial encounter with the Japanese culture dates back to my early years of childhood.  I was 7 at the time and had never heard of the japanovirus.  It started innocently with a friendship, but quickly spread to include sushi, japanese drumming, kendo fighting and - oh my - Japanese dating ;)  The virus spread quickly and to seek help, I was forced to go to Japan, hoping that my uncurable disease would find some rest in this country and among its inhabitants.  But no!  To the contrary, this risky travel only increased the japomania...  I spare you the details of the symptoms, too scary :P  Proximity with someone or something related to Japan now makes me hysteric :w00t: - laugh, imagine the scene at the concert, I would be a show all to myself.  But rest assured, if you give me 2 tickets, I will contain myself and only danse wildly on the stage ;)

Hmmm...here are my three top reasons why I should get 2 free tickets to see the Yamato Drummers of Japan.

3. I used to date a Japanese girl, which means I know and appreciate Japanese culture (my ex-girlfriend told me that traditionally, the drums were supposed to ward off bad spirits--not sure if that is right).

2. I lived for three months with her and her Japanese family, which was another culture shock. Although, we had lots of home "cooked" sushi meals (which I loved), I never got a chance to see traditional Japanese drummers.

And my top reason for wanting to see them...

1. One of my favorite B-movies is Rising Sun (also a novel, which I read, by Michael Crichton), and in that movie there is a scene at Yakamoto towers with Yamato drummers. As a kid, seeing that movie, I wanted to one day see live traditional japanese drummers.

I keep trying to suprise my boyfriend with what I feel are thoughtful sweet gestures but I never seem to get it right...movie night at the orange open air cinema, the sound got messed up and the movie was cancelled.......dinner at a nice restaurant always seems to coincide with a game so we end up eating at supersonic speed.......concert at my friends church, he fell asleep.......so I would like to give the Yamato drummers performance a shot since neither of the above can happen and maybe i'll finally get it right after more than a year! he seems to be spot on when it comes to me.......would appreciate your help;)

Please ignore my last message just sent by mistake with a Tipp-Ex!

In fact, I like to have two tickets to offer to my parents, they're both deaf and can't see well anymore, I'll tell them that it is Madonna's show with dancing girls troup as they remember having seen Madonna half covered and sexy on stage with others on TV 15 years ago...

Well, it's been a while since I've gotten any ..um..."action" in a certan "department"... and I'm starting to feel like these drummers look up there on stage. :-(    I don't have such an outlet to vent my own "frustrations", but I'm thinking the chance to do it vicariously might prove to be therapeutic... please help this poor gal in need (before the bleak winter months are upon us!!)

2 tickets please - who knows? Maybe your generousity will turn "vicarious" into "victory" ;-)

PS - Am baring my naked soul here (pun instended) for the chance to get tickets. Any "offers" that may result from posting this - though as a gesture very much appreciated - will not receive a response...

i was born in Japan and love all things Japanese, so i went back to live there. i came back after 3 years, and i've been trying to go to Japan at least once a year since then - it's such a great place and i miss it so much (ask my friends, they get annoyed at how much i talk about Japan :D )! unfortunately, i wasn't able to go this year, funds being low :crying:

i've always loved taiko, which i really discovered at Hanami, then at a Tanka reading and various other traditional times in Japan. and then, there's also the game version!!! it's tiring as hell, though, and i can only say those people who play for a living, well, they deserve our respect for the amount of energy they use to entertain others! and the costumes and everything, the synchronisation... wow!

so yes, i'd LOVE two tickets (i'm sure i can find someone who'll go with me), but only if it's on the 9th, 10th or 11th, as i'll be out of the country on the other days.

your very truly Japanese! :D

HEEEEEELP!!! I need 2 tickets to save my life, my flat and prevent Geneva citizens from not sleeping at night anymore!

My boyfriend has been stuck at home for a few weeks writing his thesis and he is becoming crazy... slowly turning into a YAKUZA and threatening to ruin the flat, take the dustbin and play drummers all night long in Geneva's streets...

If you want Geneva to remain a quiet and peaceful place to live in, please give me 2 tickets! Hope you understand the urgency...

In exchange my boyfriend is offering to make a repeat performance for the unlucky who haven't had the chance to get a ticket... so, do we have a deal? :)

Konnicha Opus1!

The "End of the World" is fast approaching (only 4 more days and look how the Genevan weather is already shedding its tears...) and what would be more fitting than going out with a big bang to the sound of drumrolls from the Yamato drummers??!!

Hubby doesn't believe this end of the world nonsense (scientists would believe anything just to be able to keep experimenting, right?) so IF he turns out to be right, what would be more fitting than celebrating the "Non-end of the World" than to the sound of drumrolls from the Yamato drummers??!!!

SO regardless of the final outcome, we (2 tickets pls.) really should get these tickets so we can celebrate the LHC First Beam with all the energy and power that it truely deserves!

Although this might be jinxing it (tickets or the LHC...), I will end this entry by saying:

I would love to see this concert! I had the chance to hear a great Taiko group in Vancouver about 15 years ago and had even taken a workshop to play one of their 'pieces'! It was an amazing experience! After watching the glocal youtube video, it brought back great memories.

I would even go with just one ticket, or if I was fortunate to win two, I would take a glocals friend with me!

Cheers!

Wondering if anybody saw the Olympic opening that Chinese soldiers did fantastic dumps shows. They are not even professionals. I would think that Japanese professionals could top it. Love to win a ticket to experience personally to compare.

Having grown up in Kobe, Japan I have a natural affection for all things Japanese. I have actually seen the Yamato drummers a couple of years back in my university town of Maastricht and due to my great networking skills (hihi) managed to get backstage tickets... The night ended in a SAKE festival at my house in the Netherlands and we all had a great night in front of the Karaoke machine... However my entire stake of sake (including the rare hebi-sake with a snake in the bottle), udon noodle soups, and yakitori got devoured that night. The drummers I had over gave me their phone number and email address and promised they would send me supplies from Japan... However due to the massive headache the Sake gave me, I fed the note with the address details to my dog the next day and have not received a reply from their agent to my spontaneous emails (which is understandable haha who in their right mind would believe such a story )...

To make it short, I think I deserve TWO tickets to the concert for several reasons: (1) to go out on another sake festival and this time let the guys pay and thereby give some of the money back to the Japanese restaurant scene in GVA (I am sure they make enough money with their concerts to accommodate this wish hihi), (2) to start another karaoke party after the festival and this time have them bring one of their drums over to provide this quiet town of Geneva with some REAL nightlife, (3) to show my wife the Japanese culture (due to budget constraints a flight ticket for two was not yet within reach) and (4) I think it is fate that they show up exactly 3 years after I saw them last (3 being a lucky number in Japan) and that I should get a chance to see them again.

So please give me 2 tickets and if you have 3 to spare I would be more than willing to take one of the Glocal employees to the concert and introduce them personally to one of the drummers :)

I am asking two tickets not for myself, but on behalf of two kung fu swans. Their message (translated from Finnish) is (PS. Ignore the whale):

"Greetings! We are two swans, heirs to an ancient tradition of kung fu in Finland, hailing from the time when a Finnish swan migrated into Zhongyuan by accident, and was initiated into the Shaolin mysteries after helping the king of cranes to rescue his lost son.

We are currently in Geneva on a secret mission in the pursuit of justice, involving our local swan fellows. For reasons we are not at liberty to reveal, a rendez-vous at the Yamato concert would be of utmost importance to the success of our task.

Heaven would smily upon you for helping us. As Confucius says: kindness shall be recompensed with kindness."

The Competition is Now Closed Folks - Thanks Alot for all the great posts!

We just got the list of winners, and it seems alot of people were awarded 1 ticket each, so we hope that all of them will go together as a group and have a great time!

The tickets are for the September 11 show, and they will be waiting for the winners at the cashier on the night of the show.

And now, the list of winners:

Justdoit – 1 ticket

Anna_IT - 1 ticket

Minda - 1 ticket

Deniser – 1 ticket

srinath – 1 ticket

YouMeCo – 1 ticket

Ronine - 2 tickets

drb1 - 2 tickets

Chrissy - 1 ticket (special un-planned help-a-woman-in-need 11th ticket prize)

Thanks again for all the great posts, and enjoy the show
