I was hoping to get some last-minute advice on one or two cheap, reliable freighting companies for transporting personal effects out of Geneva to Australia. By sea or by ship, it doesn't matter.

Hi Simon,
the big companies will all offer pretty competitive rates, it depends on the time frame you need which will dictate air or sea freight. I would recommend DHL, Agility, or Panalpina. They all have offices in Switzerland and Australia, and will probably offer weekly LCL services.

We did the trip the other way around: from Perth to Geneva.
Interdean were extremely good in Perth, most reliable and efficient. However, the unpacking team in Geneva were slapdash and had to be watched. If you can overcome this problem, the unpacking in Oz should be super.
