As an almost 2 year old resident of Fribourg I can tell you there are plenty of interesting trails to do around Fribourg, lots of curiosities, and when it comes to restaurants, I would recommend Cafe du Midi and Cafe des Anges.  Cafe du Midi is legendary for its moitie / moitie cheese fondues.. also tomato and goat cheese fondues.  Cafe du Belvedere is also a nice coffee place with a terrace from where you can enjoy some nice views of the city (I do my language exchange event there on Monday nights).

As far as walking trails, definitely do les gorges du Goteron, and of course, a walk around the upper and lower sections of the medieval town, with a dramatic and smelly ride on the cable car that connects both sections of the city.

there are a lot of nice views to enjoy in this city... you just have to get away from the train station... very far away that is. :)

Thank you Jean-Jacques for taking the time to share from your exoerience as a local. I think my hotel is close to the station! Armed with your advice I'm sure I'll enjoy my visit.

Enjoy your language exchange tonight. I won't be in town on a Monday night or I might have dropped in. Thanks again.
