Geneva and local region engineering recruitment help.

Hi all,

I am a mechanical engineer, working in design/ development for automotive/motorsport living in the UK but looking to relocate out to Geneva. I have been looking and applying for a while with not a massive amount of success.

so the question is, can anyone offer any advice or contacts for companies in Geneva or the surrounding area (close enough to commute from Geneva) or maybe engineering recruitment agencies, or maybe even some contacts. would need to be positions which will be happy with English language as my French is not yet fluent.

I have been looking at the obvious websites - expateer, jobs.ch etc and have applications with CERN.

any help greatfully received!

Things are not particularly great in the Canton of Geneva at the moment. With the impending closure of Merck-Serono there are a large number of qualified persons in the job market who obviously speak fluent French and who probably already have work permits. Why Geneva, which has the highest unemployment rate in Switzerland [not that this is much of a comparison world-wide at 5.3%]? You could try The Local, Switzerland version [newspaper] : on the upper right hand side there is a section for vacancies. Alternatively try Englishforum.ch, scroll down and there is a jobs offered section there too. If your French is good enough try Anibis.ch, or Petitesannonces.ch. Good luck, it wont be easy.

honestly with your profile, chances are very small... there's no such kind of industries here... good luck anyway... Sorry to tell you that but it's not the good place for your kind of qualifications... :-/

no problem at all. Honesty is always welcome. I will keep looking, I am happy to use my skills outside of my normal area of industry.
