Glocals Central?

What about exploring the idea of renting a location as an association for activities, meetings, etc? A cooperatively managed, volunteer run, centrally located venue could be well worth the effort. It could be a cafe, bar, WIFI enabled, meeting place for events to 100 people, screening room, and on and on. What are your thoughts?

I know that if a 'glocals central' already existed in Geneva it would be very well utilized and attended. The type of association required to manage the space is well known, a local example of cooperative association can be found at La Galerie in Les Grottes. As for the 'dosh' there are ways to create a 'membership fee' which when collected from the active participants would cover recurring costs, not to mention surplus generated from on sale items, services and or events. The founders could become active in the centrale, or maintain administrative functions (and be renumerated by the 'association'!) Naturally contributing members could be incentivized with certain perks, while non contributing members at the centrale would have the same access, but at a pay per use schedule. Many food coops operate this way.

Anyone interested in brainstorming the idea offline le'me know, we can organize activity. We could prepare some concrete ideas for review.

It would be a good idea to get together, just need to organise where and when, i normally wouldn't hesitate, but still finding my way around this place!

might be l'ile, that is the little island just off the Rhone. One or two associations already operate there... Those interested might check with the Gerance Immobilier Municipale for other locations....
