We all come from different backgrounds so its humanly not possible to behave/interact/think exactly the same way. We can politely "agree to disagree". But there are some people here who seem to feel that it is their God given right to discourage and demean others. They seem to have a sense of superiority over others.....Some victims might choose to stay silent or just choose to be inactive and some reply until they get tired.....unlike them we have many other things to do in life!

This is the typical forum effect where the inhibition threshold to "aggressive" communication is lowered. If you would sit on a table over a glass of wine with the same person, it would be different i'm sure ... Why take it personally.

Maybe some (and I mean some) Glocee's could get also a good serving of a reality grip, life is not all Sushi restaurants, massage this, beauty that, the beautiful people, I mean seriously I have met some nice people during activities but also some seriously stuck up a** holes who's over inflated ego could well do with a certain re-assessment...I rest my case...

The world is my oyster, as long as we live in virtual social networking space.
Here we can be anyone we want, put anyones photo, and pretent to be anything we wanted to be.

So I will grab my kleenex's and cry for you (argentina) til we run out.

Given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably makes a comparison to Hitler or the Nazis.

Though I hate bullies, I think you are mixing some things up here.
The OP posted in the other thread made a very strong statement about an organisation without giving the facts, when asked still no facts. 1stly it's inappropriate to blame an organisation without giving the full facts, if done so - people might have reacted very sympathetic.
Than in the same post, Mona - your own reaction triggered a whole sort of other discussion - outside the original scope of the discussion, and actually as Edward said, following Godwins law, you lost the discussion because you've called others (including me) xenophobes. When you post strong opinions, (I do from time to time) expect that others have opions to! And that your opinion is not always correct a 100%. Religion is for many people a sacred thing, I think 99pct of the people respect that here, without a doubt. But - like me they might be atheists, and would like to discuss things.
Because people don't agree doesn't make them bullies!
The next problem than is that one person (speaking for myself, but again 99pct of people here ) is/are open to listen - "I've asked why preson X is wrong" - no reply. Just - "you are wrong". That's not a discussion.
And I don't fully agree with the mod's now. I think it's perfectly fine to discuss religion, as long as it's done in a respectfull manner (both sides!). But it's the internet so things do get a bit temperamental. That's perhaps the fun part of it. I for a fact always stand happily correct if so needed, it means I learned a thing or two about others.
To wrap the other post up i think the expression "People who live in glass houses shouldn't trow stones" is very appropriate here. I don't think anybody was bullying - it's more trolling :-) Be safe and happy!!!

Dear Martin,
In my second post on this site about the case of Adeline Morel's murders I was asked by some very active member why do I criticise a murder here while I am just Turkish. In the discrimination post someone says why "muslims choose not to have their photos in social networking sites", then someone asks me about what our Prophet thought of us. I am active since few days and I am already being bullied for being Turkish and Muslim while I never made any reference to my nationality or religion, whenever I reply to the OP it is usually not off topic and I really want to add something useful to the post (i dont know if i succeed or not but I do the efforts), some others just post to bully, to make fun of others, to disrepect and demean. Yes I replied because I wont shut up if someone is picking on us/me or anyone.
Regarding the discrimination post, yes I agree with you, it was more generalised and lacked details but you just need some common sense to understand what he wanted to say. Did you read my reply to him? I knew exactly what he meant and replied accordingly, i didnt agree with racial and religious discrimination but I did agree that there is favouritism just like in any other place. I absolutely did not agree on making fun of the guy. No! Thats wrong and that IS bullying!

There is bullying on these forums, sometimes justified, sometimes not. some people do need to have it spelt out to them though.
Just as bad though, there's the self-righteous person who will never see anything from anyone elses point of view and inevitably ends up resorting to two or three repetetive arguments (xenophobia, language barrier, cultural differences... ) to justify an incorrect position.

I did call you a xenophobe, because of your reference to burka. In France there are over 4.5 million muslims, lets say half of them are women. So out of 2 million, only 2000 wear burka, and even that is considered a generous estimate. In netherlands its supposed to be around 300 women wearing the face viel, are you justified in calling us "not being able to integrate" because of burka? I saw more drug addicts in the streets in amsterdam than women wearing burkas, do they integrate in society? Or should I call Dutch society "drug addicts" because I saw a few? Does it make any sense? Either our cups are full and we do not understand each other or we are simply not able to convey our point of view. Whatever it is, I am not here to offend others, and I absolutely like intellectual and fun discussions without having a preset image of people in my brain based on their gender/nationality/race/religion or whatever.

I personally do not support banning the Burka or stopping anyone from dressing as they please but am interested in your opinion. The real motive for the Burka ban is to win back extreme right voters (real racists) stopping Le Pen, for instance, getting into power. They can't say that, so they give the reason that Burka's opress women, stopping them from taking a full part in society etc... Is that really true? If someone chooses to wear the burka, they are not being opressed. If they are coerced into wearing it by a religeon, they are choosing to follow that religeon. On the other hand, if banning a few thousand burka wearers prevents the extreme right from forming governement, my values are challenged...

We muslims do not agree on "how much to cover". Quran says to dress modestly, it doesnt say cover your face. The Verse is interpreted by different muslims in different ways. My OWN interpretation is that one shouldnt make oneself an object of desire and attention so as long as someone is dressed modestly its fine. There are some sections who think they have to cover everthing except the eyes, they really believe in it and will do it anywhere in the world. Some Saudis cover completely when in Saudi and drive their Ferraris in Geneva wearing jeans and shirts, they do not cover in Saudi because they believe in it, they do it because its the law there, so we can say that in Saudi there are women who are opressed, but out of 2000 burka wearers in France I wont think even 10 would be opressed, they do it because they do "believe" in pleasing God by completely covering themselves. It is more like nuns and preists, they leave some of the worldly stuff to please God.
And where do we draw a line for opression? I know some muslim families who wont let their women wear mini skirts/bikinis or deep neck shirts, are they considered opressed? May be yes, because they cannot choose to do what they want to do, so how can the government help them? And trust me there must be hundreds and thousands who are opressed in that way, they want to dress freely, to have boyfriends and relationships before marriage and they are not allowed. And they dont wear burkas, they are just normally dressed in jeans and shirts and still "opressed"

There are enough even non-religeous families that would prefer their daughters not to wear miniskirts. There the parents are imposing their values rather than opressing.
But the quandry is, should you ban the burka in order to stop an extreme right party from getting into public office? Which is basically what they did in France, despite it being a little hypocritical.
Or put another way, which is worse burka ban or neo-nazi governement?

Richard, not everyone understands the agenda behind burka ban like you do. Some people call us "not able to integrate" because of the 2000 or 200 burka women. As I said before I dont like burka regardless of its relation to politics, and I do not agree with using it for politics as it pollutes the minds of commoners and creates problems, e.g. I have nothing to do with a burka and how many times people rub it on my face....

sorry but as a turkish person I have to ask – who do you mean by "US"? I think you really create a problem here, when you speak about turks/muslims/burka and call it "US" by placing it under the same umbrella. Peopl ethink "oh that seems to be the same thing". It's not.
I, for example may be turkish, and originally a raised "muslima" (even if today I woul call myself a pantheist, so absolutely not a "classic" muslima – but thats an other topic) but I have nothing to do with burka – this is not part of my world/believe system.
and sadly in some places on earth people are right when they say "WE"'re not so good in integration. look at some (!!!) turks living (i'm ONLY referring to former migrant workers) in germany – they can't even speak the language after 30 years. by the way, I also grew up as the child of migrant workers – in 3rd generation :) but turks born and raised in turkey would say "the migrant workers living for ex. in germany aren't "us"".
so who is "US"?

"US" was anyone getting bullied here!!! Nothing to do with turks or muslims. Thats what the image you made out of my post! I was defending Alex M, i dont even know what is his religion or nationality.
Regarding turks/langauge/integration/migration, its a wide topic and you can start a post on it. Thanks

And if you are refereing to the phrase "us not being able to integrate" then that was for martin who in a previous post put all muslims in the same frame and I told him what you are telling me. Read again! Probably you will get it!
Gosh, wish people could understand things better before commenting. If I understand something even 90% I refrain from making a comment as I obviously am not getting it!

If you are referring to me then your assumption is wrong. I do not have the slightest desire of participating in such discussion. Do you know me? Just being Turkish doesnt mean I am equipped with the right knowledge to discuss any matter related to Turkey, and i dont get into any disucssion just for the "sake" of it.

Good thing then that this burqa is turkish only in your mind...
What i found today amazing is that even in todays globalization and communications, somehow the organizers got it wrong at the Miss World in Indonesia.
We all know beauty pagents are a joke but really, it is a Miss World pagent or Miss World 'according to Indonesia'. If they dont accept this -format- then why was it allowed and then 'forcing the contestants' to change there strategies and cloths.
I think it was a ploy to provide a better chance for the women in Burka's ?
So is it now a Beauty or Fashion contest?

What is bullying?
When I was a kid, it meant picking on someone who could not defend themself, and for no good reason.
It appears to have taken on a very different meaning here.

Glocals is a funny place.
Seriously? A right-wing socialist workers party?
I couldn't stop laughing when I read that one.
I hope you're just kidding, taking the piss or smoking crack. And if it's the latter, then that might be a small problem because there appear to be some around these parts that may suggest that a serious medical condition like chemical addiction, with similar genetic markers like cancer and diabetes, could be an act of malice and/or defiance to social assimilation.

Some really interesting and entertaining comments here :)
As for Mona....i have been a member of this community for a while now n i have met my share of ............... You may be right in saying that some people react diffently or rather curious to know more when they find out you are muslim but saying that ppl are going at you because you are muslim or turkish, that is i think your version of the story n opening a thread on top of it is in my opinion just a cry for undeserved attention.
Also, my quick tip for glocals forum: you always see the number of post a member has, click on the name you will see how long they have been a member. If you come across people talking shit n their average post rate is over 30 per year then it is safe to assume that this person might not have something better to do in real life n most likely posting on issues he/she have no clue about.
Good luck with your situation if there is one.

Sami! Did I say that Muslims and Turkish people get bullied? If you saw that then you really have no clue what people are talking about! I for example can't be bullied! I am strong as a rock. I have seen others getting rediculed over and over always by the same bunch of few people. I don't know how many times I have to clarify this. No wonder so many people are jobless or without a real kind of job, at my work I never come across people who need a power point presentation or a dummies book to userstand something so simple.

Projection (Psychological)
1) An unconscious self-defence mechanism characterised by a person unconsciously attributing their own issues onto someone or something else as a form of delusion and denial.
2) A way to blame others for your own negative thoughts by repressing them and then attributing them to someone else. Due to the sorrowful nature of delusion and denial it is very difficult for the target to be able to clarify the reality of the situation.
3) A way to transfer guilt for your own thoughts, emotions and actions onto another as a way of not admitting your guilt to yourself.

Dear Martin,
"In my second post on this site about the case of Adeline Morel's murders I was asked by some very active member why do I criticise a murder here while I am just Turkish. Yes I replied because I wont shut up if someone is picking on us/me or anyone."
If you ask me, yes i did read that u are getting bullied for your background n religion.
Anyways, its clear to me now thats neither your religion nor nationality...it's just your personality.
Pointless to engage in discussion with you any further as you are confused n are mixing up multiple subjects. It should be a hint for you that the thread is over 70 posts n yet not one person so far has fully sided with your argument.
I suggest you should save whatever of that dignity (confusion) left n refrain from making some more threads like these.
I wish you a good weekend
Cheers

The discussion between me and martin is coming from a previous post, if you dont know about it then stay out of it. As far as agreeing or disagreeing is concerned, it will be really stupid of me to ask people to agree with me since my original post says "politely agree to disagree"
And again there are people with brain that I would love to disagree with, Martin being one example. Even if we are arguing over Xenophobia or disagreeing there is a certain intellect in it and I am enjoying it.
Having said that I do not want or desire to argue with you! Since you are more into personal attacks. You sound/look quite an ABCD yourself. It means Abroad Born Confused Desi ;)

Having said that I do not want or desire to argue with you! Since you are more into personal attacks. You sound/look quite an ABCD yourself. It means Abroad Born Confused Desi ;)

And mind it Sami that I hate getting personal. You have to really push the buttons to get out the worst in me. Since you refer to my personality I referred to yours. Last time I clicked on your profile it said "From Pakistan" and now it says "From Canada" so not sure who is confused here ;) so I suggest u save whatever dignity (confusion) is left and refrain from making personal remarks ;)

Hey Mona,
just to follow up on Sami's post above (number 73)...
A good way to screen out the tiresome forum-lurkers is to do a quick check of their profile. The people with zero friends, zero activities but dozens of forum posts can probably be dismissed as attention seeking trolls :-)

You actually described Mona's profile, with no profile picture, zero friends and zero activities but dozen of forum posts where people being called bullies by her and where she is creating an image of herself as one of the victims because she comes from a different background etc.

Speaking the truth with pleasure
Advise well taken, when I feel the need of making cyber friends I will choose wisely, avoiding young babysitters and their old football friends :D For the moment my plate is quite full with real life friends and this site is just a time pass and source of info when I need some

Francesca, did u just called her a satan?! Can't stop laughing !
Mona Darling,
You, calling me a young babysitter is not offending at all, because at the end I probably have a better and successful carrier then you, plus I'm younger then you so is that it? jealous much?! I've got it all baby, hate me for it because I love it. Calling Casuistik an old football friend just shows how pathetic you are. There is no way in hell, that someone here would ever consider you even as a virtual friend, can't imagine what's the difference in real life with a dirty mouth like that. Do you have any dignity to drop it finally? I mean, after all those comments from all sorts of people, you still don't get it. Get over yourself. You have been smashed with words to the ground here and still, you continue to pick on people. Shameless.

life is all about choices...just walk away......or you accept to be bullied , because no one needs to be bullied.
