Hi Michelle,

Well, I'm not a school, but I sure know the language teaching trade well enough. Contact me if you're still searching.

Have a nice evening!

Hi Michelle, try Ecole Agora at St. Francois...cheap and friendly. Way better than Migros!

I learned my french in the countryside. I used to speak with a very strong Vaud accent. Too bad I lost it over time :-). There is video evidence of the strong accent.

What about learning a language through sport, through sailing or rock climbing for example?

I'll be quiet now.

Hi, I have spent 3 months mornings and afternoons at Agora. If you want to learn grammar in a structured way where teachers are friendly, go to Agora. They are always willing to give extra help. Migros, I just finished an intensive class which fit my working schedule in the evening. Complete waste of money. 1 days, we went to the computer area to surf on french internet. I can do that at home! second day, they came with 10-15 french cartoon books. We did nothing (didn't even speak) and sat and read them for 1.5 hours. I had a friend that left Migros after paying 3 months half way because he was so fed up. He then joined and stayed at Agora. Hope this helps!

My suggestion is to get yourself into Agora to learn the grammar fast and then at the same time, get a tandem to practice with. Agora also lets you enter from month to month and you can step in at anytime.

If anyone know of a private teacher charging less than 50CHF/ hour, please let me know! I need to get back into French and my work schedule would make me miss most normal structured classes.

Best Regards,

Sharon

Any tips on how to register with Agora?  I emailed them and got an email back saying I had to go to the office between 10am and 6pm which is impossible for me.  So I tried to do it by email last week and heard nothing back.

I also don't get the "month by month" and how they keep the classes consistent or the levels accurate.

They also didn't answer my question about how they grade you or if they test you, so that you go in at the right level.

Any advice/clues/tips?? Thx!

Try Linguaviva (www.linguaviva.ch), one of the best language schools (since 1976). I believe they practice special rates for glocals members and, should you pay taxes in Geneva, you may benefit from a Grant for Education (750.00 CHF).

For those who may be interested in Grant for Education, few important notes are:

You have to pay taxes for at least one year

Your salary cannot exceed ~88k CHF (that is for a single guy)

Their website is http://www.ge.ch/caf/
