Quoting Granny from a previous post
That's why I'm no moralist and I advise you all to join the family with the motto:
"Listen to the Granny: you like him? Give it a try!"
If he declines it will be flattery for him, and flattery for yourself who showed you are able to go do the first step, rather than sitting and waiting.
This is my comment (thought thay could be nice give this topic is own thread)
Granny is always right but ...
I know it's year 2007 and everyone should be able to do whatever they feel like etc etc. But. But. But.
But Geneva is a small town in the end, and once you get a reputation it takes quite few months of keeping quiet and taking it easy to get back to being just a person. And it takes nothing to get a reputation here (ok this might change depending on who you work for). And also ... sure men will be flattered if you give it a go and hit on them. Who wouldn't? But with few exception I've seen almost none of this 'one night' encounters changing in a relationship. It's almost as if the old 'madonna-whore' thing for men is still important. Nice that u hit on them and flirt, be too open and you are cathegorized in one night stand material (which is perfectly fine if that's what you are looking for, not being judgmental here).
SO ... Granny any advice? beside the obvious - if she/he's so close minded to cathgorize ppl and to beleive in rumors then he/she wasn't worth dating anyway?

keep my professional and private life separate then I wouldn't care. But unfortunatelly here is not possible, or really though. So I don't want to be seen as the one that got sick because was totally wasted on a wedsneday night. Most probabily is unrelated but .. i can't keep it a secret here and I don't look as professional as I am. Have to say that this is the only reason why I care about my reputation and I do agree with you on the "who cares' way of thinking for everything else
My point was slightly different . It happened to me then after I had a more quite life for a while (for reasons un-related t0 my reputation - didn't even know i had one at the time), I found out that some ppl found it easier to get closer to me, to talk to me, get to know what's beyond the party-girl, when I am not always out there partying as if there's not tomorrow. It's just less intimidating. I also realized that while I could get an hook up if I wanted one by hitting on a guy (and again, nothing wrong with that) .. now that is not what I am interested into, anymore.
And unfortunatelly, if u really like a guy, and you go and hit on him ... he will most probabily consider you for a hook up, but nothing more serious then that (and it's unfair) ... so ... I am kinda stuck. Chatting with ppl at parties and hitting on them and flirting is easy, but from my researches most of the time you tend to be only the 'party fling'. So my question was : how to go and talk to someone - hit on someone - giving it a go, if an hook up is not what u are after?

What has partying to do with getting wasted?
... knowing people (beyond the party girl) with dating people ... ?
... dating people with your professional life...?
... your personal reputation with your professional one?
My advice in this case didn't refer to your professional life or to making friends. It referred to be able to make a choice and go for it. To be a woman that dares to chose, rather than waiting for somebody to choose you. To be able to decide when you want to (try to) share something with someone (whatever it is, from an ice-cream to a lifetime) because you want it and not influenced by what people may think of it.
Of course once you made a first step there's the other person involved. He may (or not) want to give it a try with you, and may want (or not) have a one night stand, or try a longer relation...
... but it case he made his decision based on the reputation he heard you have, would you really want it to continue with somebody so immature to be unable to judge for himself?

Although Hoiling, I've never met you in person, I have seen you out at GOL parties and you seem like a really fun girl.! From one party girl to another I feel like I should tell you all I know....
1) Very few, I mean VERY FEW, relationships ever come out of One-night stands. Its incredible difficult to build something off of a situation you became incredibly intimate without building any trust first. The good news is that with one-night stands, relationship rules also go out the window! The only time its acceptable to grab what you want and you don't even have to be on a first name basis! Plus, it does feel nice when that cute boy is interested in you, even if it is for purly artifical reasons.
2) He's just not that into you. (Great book!) Surly you've met a guy who is great on paper, but there just wasn't that certain Je ne sais quoi? It really is "to each his own" and what someone else finds amazing about you another person could despise. Its not you, you are wonderful! For some reason or another, timing, thier immaturity, sexuality, etc. they are not interested Hey, at least you find out now rather than 4 years down the line and you don't waste anymore time.
Not really knowing you, but knowing men pretty well ( I have a lot of guy friends who talk very candidly about women) I'd say you don't have to worry. You look like a gorgeous, outgoing, funny woman any man would be lucky enough to take home. ;)

And Tinkie you are right, I still do go out and party in the weekends. Every weekend. And I do still go on the corner stage at SIP and dance like krazy. Somethings I will never change not even for my job. Thou I've calmed down quite a lot but for different reasons.
Strange as it seems my question was not related to a personal need. GOL IS NOT A DATING SITE (said the one with the ex bf on this site :P ) ... it's just that being the sober one at parties for quite some months already I've started to notice certain dynamics. And exactly because I know that me and all of my friends CAN get a One night stand if we would want to (and indeed got some some times), I've started to notice that building something more from that is usually not the way to go. Fortunately or Unfortunately
Was just commeing that very few long lasting relationship started like that. And wanted to chekc what was other ppl opinion on that :)
This said .. going to talk to ppl and be open is the way to go. Hitting on guys or starting something is probabily something that is not in my DNA (yeah Granny, sorry but I am still a lady from the south of italy, where you get chased :P - joking!!)

Whatever is it!
Just trust your feelings, trust yourself, and do it the way you feel it.
That's how you'll be recognised as yourself by the one(s: I'm not just talking about dating but friendship, work...) that you hope to meet.
What others think about it... is not your problem!

1: Grany is right, listen to Grany
2: Stop hitting on colleagues and partying with them if you don't wont to mix pro and private lives
3: Grany, once again, is right, listen to Grany, there are no rules on how to find the right one. Some meet in bars, others in planes, cafes, offices, buses, discos, boats, underwater, etc, etc.
4: oh, surprise, Tinkie is right too ;-)
There are some decent guys out there. And if some guys are, indeed shy (or don't want to get a very bad reputation of "hunter" or ***(worse)), most are bent with dual standards too: protective/sweet, strong/sensitive, virile/not macho, muscled/not sport addict, rich/not workohoolic, family man/not pygama man, able to fix a car/not speaking about car, being sobber/liking wine, cooking well, loving food/being slim, being sexy/being trustworthy, being well dressed/not too "queeny", fashionaly unshavedsilk smooth, horny/faithfull, having leadership/ being feminist, be surpising/consitent, creative/rational, intelectual/fun, easy going/serious, etc, etc...
5: who said having a one night stand was easy ? The girls I fancy usually consider me as their "like a sister confident"... if they didn't run away in the forst place. SO RESPECT to people able (socially, emotionaly, etc) to get and enjoy ONSs ! :-D
