Has my glocals profile been hacked‽

This came into my private email box ...I think it's the guy who scammed over $40k from a woman in the USA, there is no trace of this guy in my glocals message box, however, when I click on the link it brings me to the glocals site. Has anyone else received the same‽

Hi Shirley T,

Hello Beautiful one,

Good day madam. How are you doing? I hope my email finds you in good health. My name is General Raymond.I am in the Army.

My line of work do not allow me much time for dating and to socialize. This is the reason why i joined this site.I have led a lonely life for long and i think is high time settled down again.Forgive me for going through your profile but i must confess that i find it very interesting and would want to know more about you if you don't mind.If you would be kind enough to email me on my private email address ([email protected]) i will tell you all you want to know about me and also send you pictures of me.

Hope to hear from you soon and have a nice day.

Ray.

Why do you think your glocals profile might have been hacked? Why do you think it might be the guy who scammed $40K?

If you ever receive strange emails - or friends of yours receive strange emails that are obstensibly *from* you - for the most part it does *not* mean that your own account has been compromised. Maybe it has, but probably not.

Email was designed to do Very. Simple. Things about 40 years ago: send text without any formatting (such as bold, underline, fonts, etc.). Over time, we've added attachments, html and more. But, it's basically the same 40 year old technology.

I say this because making an email *appear* to be from someone is one of the easiest things in the world to do. But, it does *not* require having access to your account.

One way or another "Ray" got hold of an email that glocals sends its users when they receive an email on the glocals site. Then, they changed what they wanted and sent it to you. Easy. Done.

But, don't worry about it.

I've had very similar messages on facebook (lonely soldier......) and just happened on a documentry about a woman who fell for a lonely soldier scam,...i'd had more or less the same message and made the assumption, not worried, anyway, I was born too close to the Scottish border to part with my money that easily. :-)
