How can we go from Geneva???
Do you mean the Christmas market in Strasbourg? If so, the best way is by train, via Basel. Also, while heading that way, you can check out the much less commercial and more traditional market in Colmar, and the one in Mulhouse, they are on the same trainline. I believe that the markets open next week-end, but it would be best to check online.

The train links from Mulhouse to Basel, although it is relatively close, are not that frequent. Colmar, in addition to the Christmas Market, has one of the most wonderful museums in the world {Isenheim Museum} which is very worthwhile visiting.

It is a lovely city and one of the oldest Christmas markets in Europe. There are markets on many of the squares in the centre of the city with different items. I think you'd be hard pressed to go to another city though because it would make a very long day. The train from Geneva takes 3+ hours.

Hello -
Having lived near there for a couple of years, if you time things correctly, you can have a wonderful morning and early afternoon at the Colmar market (or Strasbourg in the morning, Colmar from 12-early evening) and head to the Mulhouse market around 5 - 5:30 p.m. The Mulhouse market is much smaller, and often has different stands with some unique goods that you can't find at the other two... The Mulhouse market is about a 5 min walk from the train station (Colmar - 10 min. walk from train station to main market, but the markets are spread out)... so you can usually walk around, grab something to eat from a stand, and be back on a train to Basel for 7 or 8 o'clock... from there, you can catch a train back to Lausanne or Geneva.
It makes for a full day - but it can be done! (I did last year.)
It is much easier if you have the whole week-end though.

Forgive my typos....
Hi Nikarie C,
I'm thinking of just taking in the Colmar and Mulhouse this year. But I may drive. Do you know about how long it would take to drive there from the Geneva area?

If you want to go over there i strongly recommend you to go with coach operator like marti (www.marti.ch) or Buchard (www.buchard.ch).Very well organised, no stress.

Buchard only 2 days 220.- CHF ( return and hotel)
There are also some other city where are very nice market like kaysersberg, Riquewihr or Ribeauvillé.

To Colmar....... ca. 3.5 - 4.0 hours depending upon traffic and the border crossing at Basel.

That sounds about right... I don't drive, so I usually take the train.
