Health Insurance is Going Up

Last September we received a notice in the mail informing us that health insurance rates would be increasing in 2015, mandated for all of Switzerland. In the canton of Geneva rates are set to increase around 4%.

With this notification, our insurance company, CSS, sent us a new quote that is 20% higher, not 4%. When we called the company to clarify this, they said that it's because of a policy change made in Bern. Naturally, given our past experience with the 'way' business is conducted in this country, we are wary of the 'accuracy' of this information.

Does anyone know anything about these insurance rate changes?

Thanks for any help.

I have the same problem except that mine went up by 35% despite never having gone to the doctors once in the last year.  I was told that the average increase is 4% and that whilst the compulsory health insurance has remained roughéy the same, the supplmental insurance tariff has been updated to now take into account the ages and gender of the policy holder.  I'm in my early 30s and fit and healthy so I hate to think what my tariff will be as I get older!

I'm on a company plan with Groupe Mutuel and saw my insurance rates go up by 28%. I did turn 40 in October, so I assume that that is part of it. But also, it was the complementary insurance policy that increased by an extortionate amount and the services were reduced.

I'm absolutely disgusted that single payer got defeated in the referendum.

My company was also with Groupe Mutuel and my annual premium went up by around 50%, as did most others'. We have now moved to Helsana, where the premium is back to an acceptable level and the cover is better.

I always had trouble with Groupe Mutuel, so I'm more than happy. They even issued a poursuite against me for an outstanding invoice that I had overlooked even though they processed several other claims during the course of the year. An awful company!

4% ? I dont guess. The figures are based on standard coverage for adults over the age of 26 with a 300-franc deductible.

We have a top up insurance with Group Mutuel and a compulsory insurance with Assura.  Are you still with Helsana and happy with them.

Many thanks

I would like to change my insurance provider as am paying very high amount with Group Mutual. I missed the end November deadline so am not sure if there is any way I can now change to a more reasonable insurance provider. Can anyone help?
