Go to a Do-It-Yourself-Shop (like Jumbo or COOP) and buy Moltofill rubber strips. You can make your door airtight with that, which should stop the smoke. Alternatively cover the door with a thick curtain to keep the air outside...

If you want to stay in that apartment, you eithe rtalk to your new neighbors and kindy request that they smoke further upstairs or you find a technical solution...

Shoot the smokers with a large caliber revolver, then go back and hide in your apartment.

i have the same problem in my apt, and I just HATE the smell. i like the idea of niceguy, but i think this could bring me problems... i never tried to ask the regie if smoking is allowed or not in the building, as ashtrays are overwhere in the corridor (i get this as a permission, no???).

We can still dream with a no smoking world :)

yes, I hate the smell, too! I do not think that smoking is allowed any more in the general areas of a building considering the new law ... and the regie is reacting, only very slow and I do not trust that they will be successful

thanks for the suggestions! i can see that people know to defend themselves here on glocals ... i will start with the rubber strip, perhaps put smoking bans on my day, talk to them and always try to stay a nice guy ...

There is another way. It's a step up from asking them to stop, but a couple of steps down from nice guy's large boring solution -- it would probably be around 3.5 in tinkie's list. You could take up smoking yourself. You may not like it in the beginning, but after a while I'm sure you'll come to apprecite the feeling. I hear that after starting, for some people it's really hard to stop. Most of the smokers I know say that cigarettes actually help them get going in the morning. Anyway, padding aside, once you start smoking in your own apartment, maybe the neighbours smoking will no longer bother you. If you're at your wits' end, maybe it's worth a shot?
