Help needed for swissinfo.ch article on expats

Hi,

My name is Simon Bradley and I work as a journalist for www.swissinfo.ch in Geneva.

I’m preparing an article on expats/cross-border workers in Geneva and am looking to speak to people who moved here for work in 2014-15 in particular from France, Portugal, Italy, Spain or the UK.

Geneva and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) recently presented reports on the consequences of the free movement of persons and the Swiss labour market. In Geneva the number of new residents went up last year by 1.8% (largest rise since 1960s). Most of the new arrivals in Geneva are from France, Portugal, Italy, Spain and UK, according to Geneva authorities.

The article will give a voice to these people and focus on why they have moved to Geneva or are commuting to work in Geneva. Other questions: what are the employment opportunities compared with back home? What are the constraints or problems encountered? Are they getting a fair deal (there have been complaints of wage dumping in certain sectors).

I would appreciate any help with this. If you are interested please contact me at sibradley1 (at) yahoo.co.uk

Many thanks in advance,

All the best,

Simon

P.S. I also speak French + Spanish

Simon:

Will the people being interviewed have to be identified in the article, or can they interview and remain anonymous?

When will the interview be held?

Hi Nir,

Thanks for your message. Of course people can remain anonymous if they prefer.

I hope to finish the article by July 8 so not a huge amount of time. I am hoping to do individual interviews with people either meeting them or by phone.

The aim is to build up a picture of the people who have been coming over the past year or so from those specific countries to find out more.

Cheers

Simon
