Howdy glocals
We know that the holidays can be stressful, especially for those of us far from our loved ones and native countries.
With this in mind, we asked our friends (and advertisers) over at MentalFitness to put together some tips and ideas on how to enjoy the holidays.

Thanks, have a great Xmas, and see you Saturday

I enjoyed it alot, and although I know that being active is one of the best ways to avoid the holiday blues, its still helpful to be reminded of it.

Hi Sarah and David,
I found the article very interesting but I wondered what you would suggest doing if you are lonely and feeling down over this period and do not have enough energy to reach out to others. Interested to hear your thoughts on this.”

Hi AngeeB,
Although it does take a lot of energy to plan an event, there are perhaps other ways that you can overcome feeling lonely or blue during the holidays without taking on major responsibilities.
Perhaps, for instance, you can call someone back home or chat with someone online (if you're a person that likes to affiliate with others in order to relieve stress). If you're a person that needs to tune down your energy, then maybe you can read a book that you've heard about, listen to music that makes you feel better, or do other things that help you to feel relaxed. There are different thermal spring centers around (Centre Thermal ? Yverdon or Lavay, for instance).
Alfred Adler, an Austrian doctor and psychiatrist, said that doing something for someone else often makes people feel better about themselves, and he often recommended this for his clients who suffered from depression. In this spirit, perhaps there is a soup kitchen or another program that you could volunteer your time in--walking dogs for the SPA or something else that interests you that you wouldn't have to plan.
I hope these ideas help and that they also inspire you to think of other ways to help yourself feel better.
In good health,
Sarah
