Homebrewing / Amateur Brewers
Awards winning Canadian amateur brewers looking for beer aficionados or fellow homebrewers willing to invest time and passion in the hobby.

We are 2 homebrewers now living in Geneva since 2005-2006.  Prior coming to Switzerland, we've been homebrewing all-grain beers in Montreal for few years and both won numerous medals in the process.  We are truly passionate about beer, brewing and everything related.

We are currently looking for motivated or curious people with or without brewing experience to restart our favorite hobby here in Geneva.  We'll be more than happy to share our passion, knowledge and experience with anybody willing to invest his time and, eventually, his money in renting a dedicated space to accommodate the necessary brewing equipment and activity.

In parallel, if you are an homebrewer yourself or know an homebrewer living here in Geneva, we'll be glad to meet you or him to discuss about the experience of brewing over here with everything this would imply (malt, yeast and hops providers, brewing equipment, etc).

Please don't be afraid to reply to this post or to drop me an email (using glocals mail), we're both waiting for you to share conversations and project ideas around few pints of beer (homebrewed or not) ;-)

Cheers! / Prost! / Santé! / Salute! / Sláinte!

 Hello Bertrand!

It seems like you're the only one interested about brewing beer in this community ;-)  I'm glad you replied to this thread.  For now, since we need to start again from scratch the hobby here in Geneva, we were looking for some advices and suggestions on how to build a new setup with the contraints of living here in Geneva.

We are also looking into renting a dedicated space nearby.  Do you think you can help with any of this?

I would be more than happy to drive you throw the whole process, with detailled explainations at each step, once we are back on track with a decent up & running setup, which is unfortunately not the case for the time being ... :-(

I hope that within few weeks, we'll have something more concrete (which was the initial goal of that post) in such way that it will be a pleasure to show people how we do.

Cheers!

Hi Jeff,

Over the last years, I gathered quite few links about homebrewing in Switzerland.  Most shops (if not all of them) are located in Deutschschweiz (german speaking part of Switzerland).  I haven't found yet any homebrew supply shop in Suisse Romande.  Here's few links to some swiss homebrew shops:

http://www.sios.ch/
http://www.bier-von-dir.ch/Bier_von_Dir/index.htm
http://www.bierbrauzubehoer.ch/openshop/
http://www.homebrewshop.ch

We are in the process of buying a semi-pro "pico brewing" setup and start something around that.  If you are willing to invest time, passion and money into this, send me a private email using glocals inbox.

Tomorrow, I'm meeting up with my friend Marco as well as another interested person to analyse the setup, the cost and to discuss about the dedicated place.  If you a serious about starting homebrewing, this meeting can be of interest for you.  Drop me an email.

Cheers & All the best!

Hi Simon!

Years ago, my best friend started to brew some Stouts and Ales at home. On a whim. He made this GREAT oatmeal stout which I loved.

I know nothing about home-brewing but would love to be a taste tester or what have you. And if I can make a request for an oatmeal stout..... ;)

Hey Zonker!

Oatmeal Stout is surely one of my favorite beer style!  If there's something I do miss over here: a decent Oatmeal Stout.  I brewed a least 4 batches of Oatmeal Stout back in the days.  Some of them won medals on the Canadian level if I remember correctly (or maybe those were won with my more traditionnal Dry Irish Stout I also used to brew).

We are in the process of restarting our brewing activities over here on a more serious / semi-pro level.  We'll keep you posted as soon as we have products to sample.  Oatmeal Stout will sure be part of that!

Cheers!

Hi Simon

Best thing might be to post a 'Amateur Beer Brwers' activity in the 'Things to Do' section, and ask interested people to join.

Once you set a time and place, people are more likely to show up.

Good luck

Hi Oded,

Thanks for the tip.  It's clearly a good idea. Once we'll be better organized, we'll do.

Cheers!

Hey all,  It has been about 5 years since I brewed, but I am a former homebrewer myself.  In Boston, I switched to 'brew on premisis' places before moving here last year.  The brew on premisis places in Boston had Kettles, supplies, cellar, etc.  It was possible to brew 100 liter batches!!

Anyway, if there is plan do do some brewing, I would be interested in helping out.

Bonjour Nadège!

Always nice to hear about other Montrealer!  Especially if they're into beer (even more if they know something about homebrewing ;-)).

We won some entries at the March in Montreal competition in years 2004 and 2005.  I was a member of the "MontreAlers Homebrew Club".  If you're curious about that, you can have a look at the Canadian Amateur Brewers Association webpage ( http://www.homebrewers.ca ), look for the Past Winners page.  We also won few more competitions in 2004 (AAA04, AGM04, ALES04 to name a few...):

All About Ales 2004
http://www.homebrewers.ca/competitions_ales2004_winners.php

So far, our award winning entries hasn't been sold in Montreal yet but, back in the days, we had few interesting and promising discussions regarding such thing.

We'll keep you posted and updated as soon as we have few batches to sample.  Be sure!

Cheers! / Santé!

Hey Dan!

"Brew on premisis" is an interesting concept.  We had the same thing in Canada (over Toronto and Vancouver when my homebrewing friend Marco lived few years).

As you may guess from reading this thread we do have a plan to build an homebrewing club in Geneva.  We are actually in the process of visiting rental space and evaluating semi-pro setup equipment to buy.  We are looking into buying a complete "turn key" setup to brew 50-250L batches.  We're talking about: SS conical fermenters with temperature control, semi-pro automated RIMS or HERMS with food-grade pumps and measuring sensors, etc... We'll try to avoid DYI at all cost (been there, done that).  If you want to be involved and contribute into this project, please send me a private message.

Cheers!

Hi Simon and Marco,

Are you still brewing in Geneva? I'm soon moving to Lausanne from the US and hoping to continue brewing once I'm there. Do you have any information about where to get equipment and supplies? I see an old post below with information, but was wondering if there's anything new since 2009.

Cheers!

Ok this is an old thread, but I was thinking of trying to organise a homebrew club in Lausanne, but I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in coming along...  A club of one may not be a club.

Anyone interested in the Lausanne region?
