Hello folks
I know the housing situation in Geneva is difficult, and I constantly hear people complaining about how hard it is to find a place.
Interestingly, whenever I check, I see at least 100 ads offering apartments or rooms on our MarketPlace>Housing section, so Im trying to understand where the problem is.
Is it a lack of apartments, is it high prices, is it un-accomodating regis, or is it all of the above, or something else?
Thanks
Oded

...I've been in the same appartment for 8 years, in spite of the noisy neighbourhood and the constant electrical problems:
I'd give up a 6 1/2 piece flat where I pay chf 1960.- / month for something smaller and more expensive.
Tinkie's right about the r?gies. They are in a powerful position and as a result are very rude and dishonest.
Whatever you can find, don't leave it unless you have the absolute garauntee of a place to live and be sure to sublet. Beat the regies at their game.

Hi there
To add another question, I am looking to move out of lausanne and into Geneva, as I am getting fed up with the commute (we looked into buying in France, but it did not turn out to well - estate agents lie too!). We would be looking to move early next year, and need something around CHF 2,500 (1 bedroom, although would be nice to have a little garden or terrace, like what we have in Lausanne), Is it worth using a relocation agent, or are they more into the high net worth individuals? Does anyone know how much they charge, to find a place only?...
Thanks

Thanks Sarah, that is really not such good value!
I will have to look the old fashioned away, and hope something turns up!

Thanks alot for the replies guys.
I understand that the regies have a monopoly on housing, and are not well liked.
Are there any 'up and coming' neighborhoods in Geneva, that are not too far from the city center, and where the rent is still decent?
When I was living in New York, as rents in Manhattan kept climbing, areas that used to be considered 'out of bounds' - like Harlem, Alphabet City and Hell's kithcen became really popular with the young 'hip' crowd looking for affordable housing.
Anything like that happening in Geneva?
Thanks
Oded

Some looking in Servette, Charmilles, and Acacias. Acacias, near Carouge, is now served by tram line 17.
Friends of mine and others I know have moved to Nyon. They got much more space for the same price and nicer regies.
