How does one obtain a temporary 'swiss residential permit' without a job or student status.

Hi my friend just moved here and the place where she is subletting in switzerland are asking her for a swiss residential permit to allow her to legally stay in the apartment. She hasnt got a job yet and isnt enrolled as a student. She is going to stay for a while and job hunt I think. Are there any paper work or places she could go to apply for this permit so she can stay as long as possible till she finds a job?

thanks for the info, in advance!

Hi Julie,

the best thing for your friend is:

First find a place in the french border, that way she can appliy for a permit as frontalier (I guess your friend is european)

Second go to http://ge.ch/population/loffice-cantonal-de-population-migrations

there they will tell her what papers she'll need.

Good luck!
