How to avoid being POLLUTED on Glocals events by unfriendly participants?

I am using the title of the previous post as I found it excellent.

As an organizer of activities you sometimes (not too often thank God) have to cope with moderately or radically unfriendly participants.

This happened to me 2 weeks ago with a lady who asked me to extend the group -which I did - so that she could participate.

She arrived 90 minutes late without officially enrolling for the activity, complained that I did not answer her phone call (was busy at the time), did not return her call and that I had been "rude and unprofessional" for that although I had answered all her sms (to a French mobile with additional costs!). On that day I had receive over 20 sms of people asking for info or warning they would be late.

Well, when you organize activities with large groups and come despite being ill or injured I assume you are due for a minimum of respect.

A participant who comes late, complain about the lack of "professionalism" of the organizer just misses the key fact that Glocals' events are not organized by professionals. We take our time and energy to make it the best event possible and ask nothing in return except people arriving on time (or at least not too late).

I have been organizing events on Glocals and other similar social networks for 4 years and still enjoy it but I also know many regular organizers who gave it up due to "no-shows" or unpolite participants.

Let's make Glocals a place where each member has respect for his/her fellow "Glocalist".

Post 1

Thank you Richard!

I would like to add another one:

How to avoid being BULLIED by unfriendly participants?

I have organised 66 events and met many people. When you do that you are bound to meet a few 'unfriendly' ones. In my case is even worse. I have been bullied.

I have apologized many times for not having perfectly organized the event so that it suited the needs and personality of all attendants. I have apologized many times for not being able to pick people up from the train station as I volunteered and offered a refund for the train tickets to anyone interested. But as they’ve very clearly stated people complaining here do not want a refund. They do not really want apologies. They want humiliation. They want to bully me... and they have succeeded in convincing people who I have never met critisize me personally.

I do not think is fair this bullying against someone who tries best, volunteering to get activity going in Glocals.

Thank you for your support.

Stop bullying in glocals. Stop witch-hunters.

Yours,

Alvaro
