How to entertain a 14 year old nephew from the USA.

G'day!

I have my just turned 14 year old nephew coming to stay with me for a while in Lausanne in June. Anyone got any suggestions for activities etc. to do with him?

Anywhere around Lausanne, Geneva, Montreux or even a little further away is possible as I have a car and plenty of time, and please Universe, plenty of patience...

He is from Louisiana and is a typical 14 year old boy.

Cheers!

Lisa.

He's a boy.

A brewery might be more interesting to him....

That said, if you can't get to Europa-Park, make it to Zurich's Alpamare instead.

Jungfrau-Joch might also be OK.

And, after all, it's Switzerland - so visit a cheese dairy ;-)

Signal de Bougy! - The tree climbing/swinging adventure thingy - loads of fun and you can do it with him!

Also, the taboggen ride on top of the mountain (think maybe Glacier 3000) that looks great fun! and then he gets to see a bit of Switzerland too! There is also the arcades/bowling/quasar/cinema etc...but he can do all that at home!

There is beginner scuba diving in the lake - and renting a little speed boat on the lake is always fun and not too pricey for an hour or so! Maybe even fishing or sailing for the day? Bike riding too around the city? A cable car ride?

From memory, at 14 - I really wouldn`t bother with too much culture or you`ll bore him! I expect he`ll be into sports and adventure `cool` stuff!

Have fun :-)

Hi Lisa,

Here is a list of things I put together for a friend of mine who had her niece and nephew come to visit. I am sure you will have a great time with him!

Vaud & Valais

I've actually only done this park at Halloween, but I think it is good fun for small kids:

Thermal baths are always a hit. My personal favorite is the bains de saillon when just adults for the espace de bien etre, but I think with kids Lavey is fantastic:

http://www.bainsdesaillon.ch/

Rideralp / Bettmeralp

A great place to rent a cabin. Loads of things to do with kids, the Aletsch glacier hike is a must see before it all melts!

Lucern:

Transport museum - boys of all ages love it!

http://www.verkehrshaus.ch/index.cfm?dom=4

Lucern is also a lovely town to walk around. Make sure to go across the famous bridge.

Gruyere:

We took a flight with my daughter this fall and it was such a great experience - highly recommend it!

Fun little stop while visiting Gruyere:

Boat rides to France - Nyon / Yvoire

http://www.cgn.ch/horaires/doSearch.php

Great to go for lunch or dinner - lots of little shops to visit. Very cute town.

Schaffhausen

Further away, but impressive, easy hikes for young kids:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhine_Falls

Bern:

Kids love caves, no doubt about it:

http://www.beatushoehlen.ch/fr/les-grottes.html

And I have not done this yet, but it is on my list - tell me if it is good:

http://www.myswitzerland.com/en/offer-Travel_Gettingaround-Cableways-236845.html

Is perfect for a full day outing - visit the town, the château, have a fondue lunch in the old town and then you can easily visit the chocolate & cheese factories as well as all of the below:

Have not been here yet, but it is on my list:

A must with kids! Great for an afternoon outing and picnic.
