As far as I know if one needs to rid of some big thing like a wardrobe or a bad there is a service that we can call and they will come to pick up the stuff one puts near a building entrance. But they can't do this for anything that contains vacuum chambers or some chemicals like TV or a fridge. So is there any service in Geneva (payed or any) that can help me with that?

If it is in working condition, you might try calling either Emmaus or Armee du Salut. They operate charity thrift stores and could take it off your hands.

Hi there,
When you buy any electrical equipment the cost includes a recycling tax (a couple of CHF). This means that the shop has to accept old versions of whatever they sell - so you should be able to go to any FUST etc and they will accept your old fridge, TV. I am not sure of the procedures for large items (i.e. collection) but you should be able to find out more from one of the shops.

I actually knew about the fact that a cost of recycling is already included but I did not expect them to come to pick up my old fridge especially if I didn't buy it from them. But if you think it may work I'll try it out and I'll ask one of the shop assistants to find out. Thank you for your answers.

If they don't do it, like afrochick says Emmaus, Centre Social Protestante or Caritas will probaby collect it if it works and is saleable. They will come and fetch it in your appartment. Call them and tell them what you have, they'll tell you if they are intrested, make an appointment.Sometimes dependant on their workload you may have to wait a week or sometimes even two before they collect in your area.
For things that don't work/ not saleable /too old etc the Voirie will take it away. As you say, there are set days once or twice a month where they will come fetch it outside the building, or in some communes you can ring them and they'll come fetch something big on demand (always from the designated area outside your appartment). You could ring/call round to your local Mairie or Voirie to ask them if this service is available where you live.

Why don't you call a man-with-a-van? Or if you have mobility.ch or know somebody with mobility rent a mercedes vito and move it yourself.

There are worse reasons to buy a new car.
The mobility.ch does sound nice and a Vito option seems like exactly what I need in my case... I'll check this out. Thx.
