I need your advice/wisdom!!!
Dear wise Glocals

I am really hoping someone can advise me...

I paid a large deposit for a Geneva flatshare, where I lived for one year with another girl (the tennant).  She was a very friendly, generous person, with a healthy NGO income and we were on very good terms.  I gave her notice, and left the flat to return to the UK, believing she would transfer said deposit in due course.

In brief, she isn't replying to my emails requesting its return. I know its common landlord practice to wait till someone has left then site bogus breakages, wear & tear or general ill feeling to avoid reimbursement, but she is simply ignoring me!

Being back in UK - is there any way I can demand this money? - any legal (yet low cost) proceedure??  If you have any ideas I would be very, very grateful. thanx

Hi there:  how horrible!  Its gives all of us who sublet a bad name!  Try contacting directly the REGIE and let them know what happened.  I hate to even ask but did you get ANYTHING in writing that she took a deposit from you?   If not then take whatever mail you have that had your address on it and that will prove that you lived there.

If she was a good friend then maybe ONE LAST email to let her know that you are about to escalate the complaint (you dont have to tell her what exactly) to see if you responds.  Stay cool and calm - and simply factual so that she doesnt say you are abusive etc.

i hope this little bit of info helps you out!

I would send a registered letter demanding payment.  I would also call her at her "healthy" NGO office...:hehe:
