Hi Glocals world! I've got an unusual question. If I buy tickets w/SBB with a half-price card now, will I be able to travel with those tickets even if my half-price card expires?
Caveats: I'll be leaving Switzerland in Dec, so I do not want to renew my card and I can't change my travel date because it's assigned by my embassy.

Magie, no I had it a few years ago and I had to pay full as I was one week out of expiration even though they were bought in advance. The the opposite is true though, I went to Bern before renewing mine, and when i renewed they gave me 1/2 towards the renewal price..

Hi, you can ask to SBB if they will reimburse you the half abo once you don't need it anymore, so after your trip. Couple of years ago I bought a general abonament 1st class valid for the whole switzerland (paid by my company) and SBB reimbursed me my half abo (it was 6 months old so they gave me about 60 chf) cause clearly useless once you have a GA.
But ask before to SBB, I can't ensure the guy has been nice with me or it's a SBB policy.

Simple Answer - as Lexi says - No - you need to present your demi-tarrif card when you show your ticket, regardless of when you bought it - the two have to match. They could (will) make you pay the full price fare plus a fine (if they're feeling mean), so the risk is not worth it.
If you renew your demi-tarrif, then have to cancel it, they will refund you, pro-rata - penny for penny. They actually work it out to the very day.
