I have bought a painting in the EU and it will be sent to me by post. Does anyone know if I will have to pay any duty or VAT and if so how much? Many thanks!

It may be tricky and I would give a call to Swiss Customs. They certainly speak English.

If you want to look for yourself, check the works of art section of their web site. There is a link to the right that will take you to the documentation (52.22 Importation d’oeuvres d’art in French only as I have seen). In any case, be sure to have an invoice that is not too high (you will have to pay the VAT) but nevertheless credible :-)
