Inexpensive posting of small boxes UK -> Switzerland?

Would anyone know of a relatively inexpensive method of sending a couple of small boxes of personal belongings (incl. books) from the UK to Switzerland?

Many thanks

I´m sorry to tell you that, but the words "inexpensive" and "Switzerland" just can´t be used in ONE sentence...

Hi Thomas. I am going through the same, trying to move not boxes but suitcases with personal belongings back to the UK.

From what I've checked, sending them through the Post Office might be a good option, for weights up to 25 kgs - got a quote of 95 CHF for a large suitcase weighting this, if you can afford to wait up to 10 working days.

I've contacted two firms who do international door-to-door moves of personal goods, and I'm waiting to hear from them early this week. I bet they will be more expensive. I'll be curious to see what people who actually have been through this have got to say.

Good luck with that. ;)

Hi Pedro,

Thanks for your comments.  In the past I've actually used the Swiss Post Office delivery service you mention, and it was good value for money (as far as it goes). Problem is, though, the same kind of service going the other way seems to be at least twice as expensive.

Regards, Thomas

Sorry, now I can see that I misread your original message.

For sending my stuff here I used the parcel2go.com website, and payed 25 quid for a package of up to 25 kgs - sending stuff from the UK to CH cost less than half the money, as far as I can tell. And it only takes 48 hours to arrive. Google Parcelforce Euro 48, should take you directly to the link.

This was by far the cheapest, and it's not reputedly the most reliable (there is a risk of boxes getting lost, like there is with practically anything but Express Mail or similar services), but with my box everything went fine. With TNT I had a quotation of 140 quid for 30 kgs. You'll be the judge of whether you are willing to pay much more for more peace of mind. Perhaps you might want to check the Mailbox (not sure if it's the correct name, try Googling it) high street shop, it's intermediate between the two in terms of prices and reliability. Hope this helps.

Hi Pedro

Many thanks for your tips, especially concerning Parcelforce Euro 48.

Turns out you are excellent at finding 'inexpensive' delivery services UK -> Switzerland - and I've been pretty much rubbish at it. Great, therefore, that glocals exists and kind people like yourself are willing to share their clever nuggets.

BTW I just remembered that a friend of mine once went over the boarder into France in order to post books back to the US from a French post office; it was apparently cheaper than the Swiss postal service. You might want to check that out. And one other tip: if your suitcase delivery isn't too urgent, there is a very nice Swiss guy who does removals, etc., incl. occasionally to the UK, and I'm sure he would be happy to take your things for a relatively low fee as an additional load. His name is Ueli Weder +41 (0)78 626 45 08; you will find enthusiastic endorsements of his service on the various English forums.

Cheers, Thomas
