Insurance reimbursement for joining a gym or fitness club?

I was told that some health insurance companies may reimburse their clients around CHF 500 to subsidize their fitness/gym membership costs.

I called Groupe Mutuel and the person I spoke with hasn't heard anything about it. Knowing that one person may not be aware, has anyone heard of this? More importantly, has anyone actually taken advantage of it if it does exisit and if so, which insurer are you with? Thanks!

Yes it does and i actually got the 500 CHF back, but from the shop i am with for my 'assurance complémentaire', not the 'obligatoire'. It is INTRAS or CSS as it is called now, though there is a hitch, had to first go to my doctor to get a prescription stating it would be beneficial for my back, dated prior to joining the gym. Then sent the whole set (letter asking for the reimbursement, doctors' prescription & gyms' subscription proof of payment) to the assurance.

Bit cumbersome, admittedly, but worth it just for the pleasure of - for a change - to have the insurance guy return you some money instead of receiving his  quarterly mail with the monthly payment slips or reminders because you happen to be one week late with remitting - and those letters will be in your letter box as sure as death and taxes -

Thanks for the information, that makes sense. I just have the obligatory and accident insurance so I don't think it would really apply to me. Cheers, Dan
