Insurance the First Weeks in Geneva

Hello! I am traveling to Geneva from the US to study as a PhD student at UNIGE and have a question about insurance. I have heard from many people that SwissCare is probably the best and most affordable for students. I have also heard you must apply within the first three months of living in Geneva but am not sure If I will be insured before I apply for this insurance.

Does anyone know how this process works for those of us who are in between insurance companies? Will I be insured at all for the first couple weeks of living in Geneva before I apply for SwissCare? For example, if I get in an accident the first week I'm in the country and need health care will I be covered under some sort of plan?

Thank you!

You will have the choice. You are covered from the day you apply. so just make sure you apply on your first day post jetlag.
