Int'l Women's Club?
Someone suggested to me that I look into the American International Women's Club of Geneva (http://www.aiwcgeneva.org/). It seems like a good way to meet other english-speaking women, and I like that they offer free, informal conversation sessions where you can practice your French.

Is anyone here a member? Is it as good as it sounds? I'd love to hear some feedback, both good and bad, about this place. Thanks!

Marcy

Hi Marcy,

Welcome to Geneva. I moved over from the UK in 2003 and it took me a while to get desperate enough to join the American International Women's Club but I'm glad I did because I made some great friends. The membership covers a huge range of nationalities, ages and backgrounds and I'd say join up and try everything you like the sound of.

The first day I turned up at the club HQ near Gare des Eaux Vives one of the weekly Bridge sessions was starting and everyone seemed at least 20 years older than me. I was horrified but I persevered and now I organise a couple of monthly book groups at the club and participate in a few other activities. If you're not working at the moment it gives you somewhere to hang out and meet people during the day and if you're working it gives you the opportunity to meet people outside your company. You can go down to the Club and check it out before you commit yourself. Hope to see you there soon.

Hazel

When I lived in Zurich years ago I joined the AWC but found it to be almost entirely bored wives of expat businessmen. So I never even looked here in Geneva. Maybe I will now!
