Invading Switzerland? Try Before 8 or After 5

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2014-02-17/invading-switzerland-try-before-8-or-after-5.html

Can you believe this?! Switzerland once again draws attention to itself in a negative way... How ridiculous is this?! Especially embarassing after what they voted for a short time ago...

Why? Having jets fly during office hours is a cost saving measure-sure wonder how much the French and Italians will have to pay as their respective fighter jets escorted the highjacked Ethiopian plane to Cointrin.

Didn't we invade already? I seem to remember some fuss about that over the last few weeks.

This airforce 'budget problem' is like the worst excuss.

Or does it take a very bad incedent to happen?

Now everyone in the world know about the swiss Skies are like Swiss cheese, No security from 5pm til 8am, OMG.

Really if someone whated to ram a Boeing 747 into the United Nations at 8am, their is nothing to stop them. I though the Swiss governemnt was responsible for the Security of the UN organizations? as Host nation?

And recently they put order for 22 Grippen fighter jets, costing CHF 3.1billion. but I guess they just will be sitting on the ground. example, Switzerland asks Austria during the World Economic forum in Davos to have the skies protected by AUSTRIA airforce, over Switzerland, yeah. Really Switzerland has no shortage for funds and should be employing more security,

It is not factual, that the Austrian airforce protected the sky over Switzerland during the WEF.

"Operation Daedalus 2014" and the ones before protects the Austrian airspace in the 25 nautical miles around Davos over Austrian territory.

Defending buildings, even the UN, against non-existing threats is a waste of tax-payers money. If there were an actual threat against the UN or any other building, there are far better defenses, than what the airforce can deliver.

Alan, it is factual, because austria did WEF protected with ttheir help. and that included all the 25 'Kilometers surrounding DAVOS, not miles.

And note, now the WORLD is aware of the HUGE hole in the SWISS AIR DEFENCE , so non-existing? Wasted tax but switezrland benefits greatly from all the jobs from the UN, UN organizations, NGOs, and all the Proressional expats,

And I agian note that this pilot had total contral of a airliner and he diverted it the original destination of ROME, and continued all the way to Geneva, Switzerland. And no military jets were scrabled. No emergency measures were planned or followed.

Man, if I was a terrorist, I would just laugh at people like you.

QUOTE: The operation known as Daedalus 14 will see four Austrian Eurofighters deployed to protect the area in a temporary no-fly zone over Western Austria and Davos in particular.

OVER DAVOS, 'SWISS AIRSPACE', where is the Swiss Airforce that spends billions?

And further, Bloomberg is by far more informed than you.

Today wasn’t the first time Switzerland’s Air Force has relied on outside help. Neighboring Austria deployed Eurofighter Typhoons to secure the airspace of the World Economic Forum 2014 in Davos last month and during the European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland in 2008. (2011, 2012, etc)

Nussbaum said the Swiss will review their deployment plans to be able to deploy jets more spontaneously.

“We are planning to increase Air Force staff,” he said, “to do interventions in the future.”

This is the official skyguide document, clearly showing, that it is a 25 nm (nautical miles) radius.

http://www.bmlv.gv.at/cms/artikel.php?ID=6949

This is on the site of the Austrian army and clearly states:

"Während des Treffens befinden sich nahezu durchgehend Luftfahrzeuge des Bundesheeres im Luftraum über Tirol und Vorarlberg, um die Sicherung des Treffens sicherzustellen"

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_D%C3%A4dalus

OK, its wikipedia but 46 km and Austrian territory.

http://www.doppeladler.com/da/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/karte.png

This picture clearly shows the location of the Austrian zone (over Austrian territory).

http://www.doppeladler.com/da/oebh/daedalus-2012/

It is form the year 2012, but the terms have not changed.

The Bloomberg article never states, that Austria did controll Swiss airspace, as you indicate. Switzerland is not an island and relies on cooperation with its neighbours but the Swiss Air Force did not need Austrian help to police Swiss skies.

And about the laughing terrorists. Do you even know the situation on the ground in Geneva? If a plane would attack the UN in Geneva, Swiss planes, even in the air would not be able to bring the plane down over Swiss territory.

You may live in a Bollywood movie, but her in reality, Only French planes or Swiss planes over French territory would be able to bring down a plane heading for Geneva. Do you really think, France would let a Swiss plane shoot down a Egyptian plane over French territory?

If french military determined that the pilots dont follow instructions and appear to be a treat to any 'significant structure' they will shoot any plane done. French air territory is very very strickt.

Your defence hold no substance, considering this recent event that happened outside 'working hours'. Keep defening your position, but Its clear , Swiss Airforce is off duty during 5pm to 8am, prove otherwise.

I never claimed, that the Swiss Airforce was online 24/7, so I don't need to prove anything.

There is no credible threat of the type you suggest and preparing for non-existing threats is a waste of money and other ressources.

Your view of what is 'credible and non-existing' is based on the past.

Waste of money is really needing a re-assesment because agian I state, Swiss Airforce is off duty during 5pm to 8am and now the world knows this. What protection then is covering a rich country incase of an emergency.

I think their shoudl be definitly a quick response plan, that communicates between IATA, Airports, and Continental Airforces.

Its really a minimum but at approximatly 6am the Etheopian airplane already landed?

My view is 'No excuss' for poor air security. nothing personal , my concern is security 24/7 because everyone that is flying on an airplane, they should be confident the skies are safe over Europe, and Im not just taking about a Highjacking. French and germans have very very strick airspace with 'tight air corridors' for commerial movements.

Question is what is the Swiss government 'basic contingency plans?
