Is my teenage daughter spoilt?

Hi,

I need some opinions on whether you class my 13 year old daughter as spoilt?

Well, usually she wears crop tops to school (school doesn't say anything) and she only wears branded or designer clothing. She has a MacBook pro and an iPhone X as well as the SmartWatch. On top, we give her CHF 300 a month as pocket money.

But because its Switzerland, how are the other teens here. As per my opinion, the same

Before anwering your question, I wonder if this is the life you want to give to her?

I am confused when you asked this question if she is spoilt or not, sounds like you really have a big doubt?

How is her study? Does she get a good mark or not, what does she do after school or with classmates? Do you know what she buys with 300chf every month?

As far as I know, a 13 years old child can have no pocket money regularly, but no restriction when he / she wants something, with the control by the parents.

A 13 years old child can wear normal clothes but she / he needs to organize themselves well, be tidy and clean, even wearing an old cloth from a family member is normal for me, they grow so fast!

Just my personal view. Every parents can have different financial conditions and different point of view for children.

Would you consider adopting me, please?  I don’t need the crop tops or the designer gear but I could certainly put CHF 300 p.m. pocket money to very good use for Billag, wifi, and similar bills.  Maybe I might even treat myself to a hair-do now and then.

Please let me know if there’s any hope.

Thanks, R.

i think if you even have to ask the question, then the answer is probably 'most definitely!'

Unfortunately, and you will have come to the same conclusion yourself hopefully, it would seem you are making a rod for your own back. It would be necessary to do something tangible as quickly as possible IMHO

Are you trying to be funny? How strange: you only just joined, have not participated in any activity but quickly post a ludicrous question onto the forum.

Right everyone........ just looked up OP's profile.

It says "27 year old female".

If that is correct, she gave birth to her 13 year old daughter when she was 14!

Suppose it is possible, but seems rather dodgy to me. Think we are all being taken for a rideFoot in Mouth

Hi SM,

Do your initials stand for Steven Munchin or are you really Louise Linton?

While my impulse is to simply agree with Eva, Sheila and Cliff, let me take you seriously and elaborate with the following questions:

1. Does your daughter do anything to earn her lifestyle?

2. Does she do enough to deserve it?

If yes, good for her. If not, then the answer is obvious. And real the question is not if she is spoilt, but whether you spoil her.

I have to say, your observation: "...because its Switzerland, how are the other teens here. As per my opinion, the same" is so Lintonesque.  Do you really think the teenage children of all the employees you run into at Migros, or Co-op (if you ever set foot there), of the workers at the petrol station where you fill up your tank (or perhaps your driver spares you of the ordeal), those of the teachers, canteen employees and cleaners at your daughter's school, really have "the same" as your daughter?

Surely you can not be that clueless. Switzerland is more than those teens and parents you meet at the ISB, your daughter's school. For those of you who are unaware: 28,000 CHF for annual fees, payable on the first day! Or do  you pay the 44,580 CHF for CSE?

By the way, your profile says you are 27 years old. Is your 13 year old daughter your biological daughter?  Whatever the answer, sounds like the plot is thicker.

You can never spoil the child by giving “TOO MUCH” love to him or her. The spoiling begins when the love and the lack of quality care and attention are  replaced by gudgets, money, presents etc. Because it’s easier, faster and more convenient to the parents to have a free time for themselves and to have easy obedient children.

Unfortunately its a very contagious epidemic of our society:(
