This is a pretty random question. But can anyone tell me if pashto is similar to hindi/urdu? And if so, how similar? As a hindi speaker would I be able to work in Pashto?
Thanks in advance!

I asked a Hindi Speaking Friend and had the following reply
"They claim that this language is spoken in small parts of India but I disagree to it
Indian national language is Hindi and its origin is from Urdu since its got a little urdu (similar urdu words) , But its completely different from Hindi
In Afghanistan they speak urdu and Pashto and in Pakistan/afghanistan border they speak both
And in Central Pakistan only Urdu is spoken, but in Pakistan/Indian border its more hindi and in northern part of India its more or hindi and little of Urdu
As we come down to the south of India you will see that urdu disappears and only hindi that’s spoken
And me as a Hindi speaker finds it tough to understand pure hindi.
And for sure I cannot work on this Pashto language if I only know hindi"
