Is this a TNT ripoff?

I took delivery of a parcel, at home around mid-day, from TNT today.

There was a bill to pay and I only had large denomination notes on me at the time.

The delivery guy claimed that he had no change on him and he couldn't take a credit card.

So, there I was standing on the doorstep, the guy had my parcel in his hand and I was faced with paying him with a 100 franc note and abandoning the change. Or he takes the parcel away.

Anyone else experienced this? I don't believe that he had no change. He must have made quite a few deliveries before mine and probably collected money from a lot of those. And if your company expects you to collect money it makes sense to have a float. I suspect a rip-off.

(In the end I managed to scrape togetherthe needed cash by raiding kids piggy banks, hunting through pockets etc.)

Just phone them and complain. Or write them a letter. I agree that's not normal...

Just out of curiosity. How much did you have to pay? I can accept the no credit card excuse but no change? Dont think so...

it happened to me as well, but quite understandable, even the swisspost doesn't carry around masses of money. just a sign of the times i guess. streetwise and security concious to the detriment of honest customers

i actually gave the agent a large note and he left the change in my mailbox the next day!!

You have been had! I would call and write to complain. If you can't pay, they know where you live and could have sent an invoice with bulletin de versement. As the "import agent" others such as DHL, la Poste, etc all do.  I gather you didn't get a receipt for the amount you paid, otherwise the driver would have left the package & invoice  or  just left !

No, they shouldn't carry change money. That's just a bad idea, but they could have a portable credit card machine, or leave an invoice.

Surely it doesn’t take much stretch of the imagination to keep at least CHF 100 in coins and small notes in the house at all times.  This has always been normal housekeeping practice in my book.
