Is this legal in Switzerland?

Hi all,

I was reading a job offer (*) when I've found the following statement:

"You will work 6 days out of 7 each week (i.e. 3 x 8-hour days on, followed by 1 day off)"

I mean, this is a little bit more than what usually accepted in the western world isn't it?

What do you think?

  Cheers,

  D

it depends on the situation. normally 2 days off are required. however in the tourist industry, for ex. during the ski season, a ski shop will have their staff work 6 days ( tues-sun ) but this is only for the season. nov thru march. so i guess it is temporary and not a permanent job. same in the hotel industry during the different seasons high seasons.

Its unusal indeed, presume 2 days per week is assured averagely, just splitted in a randoml way...

Even though, it doesn't reflect very well image of company from any point of view...

thanks for sharing your points of view. I won't contact the company because I'm not interested in this position (I fell on it due to some key words) but I hope that as you guess it is just an error. I've been really frightened...

Cheers,
D

hmmmm, it's nice to say "work 6 days out of 7," but it also hides the fact that you'll be working six days in a row...

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - work

Thursday - off

Friday, Saturday, Sunday - work

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - work.

etc.

yuck!

normally you have the right to 1.5 days per month, however doing the 3 month trial period, you may not be allowed to take your holidays. but this often times can be discussed.

it should be clearly stipulated in ur emplyment contract,it's normal that u will not be paid for ur holidays or offsick in ur trial period, which is normally 3 months.

I have a permanent contract and started 15th sept meaning my trial period will end 15th dec. Only because I accidently asked my manager if some weeks next year were not suitable for vacation (in order to plan when to go skiing) she informed me that I was not allowed to take more than 1-2 days vacation from the beginning of january till the end of march as we are doing a change to our system.

However, since I came to Geneva to ski, this is a huge deal for me as I planned to go skiing with familiy and friends.... and well, in the end of march the season is almost over!!!
