It's cold and I have not hot water!
What is one to do?

I live in a nice apartment, in a nice building and all should be good... But this morning, I wake up to yet another freezing cold apartment, only to find that I can only dream of a hot shower.

This happens every week and is getting rather frustrating.

Somebody put up a list for people to sign, so I'm not the only one with the problem.

I'm just wondering how I stand, now that this has been a problem for months and nobody wants to take responsibility! I've heard that if the regie doesn't put on the heat, you can ask for a 20% discount on your rent... but no idea if this is true?

Does anybody know what I could do?, or should I get used to showering with water cold enough to kill polar bears.

Look the positive side. Cold water is good for your skin.

That is certainly an option ;-)

The Russians believe that if you take a bath in the river on new-year, you will not get sick through the rest of the year.

I've seen a feature on TV about some people in Germany who have taken up that tradition (via a town-twinning with St. Petersburg, IIRC). One of the guys claimed that now that he's used to it, the cold water in the shower isn't cold enough for him any more and he puts buckets of water on the balcony in the evening and showers with that.

I would open the windows while you shower - that way, the water feels warmer than the surrounding air ;-)

SCNR...

Just to tell you that you are not alone...

I live in a villa in the French side with other 5 people, sharing a huge house in a common-student fashion... but the villa has a property: the hot water is produced inside a 200l (or so) tank. The scalding comes regularly every day at 10pm, not minute before, not minute after! And the tank doesn't have a switch, the tank doesn't have a programmable panel, nothing.

We just have to live with that. It's easy to imagine that five people taking a shower in the morning it's already enough to make the water running out! If i got to go out in the night (before 10pm) and by chance I decided to go gym, well... cold water is the regularity!

I just wonder if I can find around the architect or the constructor of the house to shake his hand and ask him where he bought his license to construct!

Thank you for your - interesting - replies..

One thing would be, if the water was just a normal cold temp. but this is Freezing! And I'm not sure my skin needs the shock everyday.. :-)

I'll look up Asloca and see what that is all about...

Katrien,

Seriously - if you need a place to take hot baths or showers, you're welcome to use our place, anytime. We have a seperate guest room with a seperate shower, so you'll have full privacy.

Tink, I rarely follow my own advices. Certainly this is not one of them.
