Job Shadowing?

I'm not entirely sure if job shadowing is something that is done here, but in the states we do it quite a lot. I am under a contract until next August, but would like to start planning ahead and am really wanting to job shadow in the marketing and advertising field. I additionally have a good amount of experience in party planning from previous work back home. Does anybody have any suggestions?

Exactly! It varies case by case, but generally speaking, you would spend a few days with them (unpaid of course), trying to get an understanding of what they do. It's really helpful for young professionals who are still exploring their options and trying to figure out their (future) career! I suppose that it is not really done over here?

Funny !

I'm a professional career coach and today i told my participants what Job Shadowing is and what benefit they could get from it...

They looked at me as if I was Mother Theresa playing tennis in her thongs !! :D

Not really used around here, no... ;-)

I'd love to know if you could get one and how it ended, if you get the time to send me a quick update.

Good luck Annie !

Wow, that really is funny! I suppose it's just one of the many cultural differences between here and the states. I wonder then, how people know if a certain career path is right for them if they don't spend the time exploring the options out there.

Regardless, thanks for the message! If I am able to find somebody to shadow (fingers crossed), I will definitely let you know all about it! Thanks!!

I never heard of it myself, the concept is interesting but I can't quite figure out how would that work on practice. It would have to work only for very low-level jobs where revealing sensitive information is not an issue.
