Join the Geneva Greeters and meet people from around the world

Hello Glocals members,

Have you ever wanted to share your favourite locations and hidden spots in Geneva, while meeting people from around the world coming for a vacation or a business trip?

We have now started the 'Geneva Greeters' association. In a few words, it is a group of local volunteers offering personalized and free-of-charge visits of Geneva to tourists.

By visit, we mean sharing with them in an informal and authentic way 'your' Geneva whether it is a famous place or off-the-beaten tracks locations and spots. For tourists, it is also about meeting locals, and knowing more about different aspects of the local life and culture.

Visits are personalized and unique based on the tourists' interests; it can be your neighbourhood, parks, spots by the lake, monuments and buildings, tips on bars / shopping / restaurants, etc. They are made for individuals or small groups of 1 to 6 persons knowing each other (e.g. a group of friends or a family on vacation, work-collegues coming for a business trip).

For information, the 'Greeters' movement was born in New York City in 1992 to show tourists a different side of the city through the eyes of locals. Since then, Greeters' associations have blossomed all around the world in Paris, Moscow, Berlin, Den Haag, Melbourne, Chicago, London (to name a few).

You can already register online (2 min) to join us and become a Geneva Greeter on the website:  www.genevagreeters.com

The only conditions are 1) to reside locally, 2) have a passion for sharing your passion of the area and meeting people, and 3) be able to complete around 10 'Greets' per year (20 to 40 hours of your time).

A meeting will be organized in a Café in Geneva early / mid September to tell you more and meet you.

We are looking forward hearing from you

Best regards,

Alain HIRT
