I’m starting a new beginner knitting course in Nyon this June and would love to invite anyone interested to join!
A small-group course for people who have never picked up needles before - or who wish to begin again with care, curiosity and confidence.
Whether you are curious about fibre arts, dream of making your own garments, or simply want to slow down and learn a tactile craft, this course offers a thoughtful and confidence-building introduction to knitting.
What we will explore:
Yarns, fibres, tools and materials - how to choose them and where to source them locally
Historical and contemporary knitting traditions - and how they differ
What knitted fabric actually is: the architecture behind every stitch
Foundational stitches and essential techniques
Texture in knitting: lace, aran structures, decorative stitch vocabularies and combinations of techniques
Garment-making basics: cast-ons and bind-offs, increases and decreases, shaping, finishing, and how to read patterns
By the end of the course you will:
Begin building your own stitch archive - a personal collection of samples, textures and ideas to continue developing after the course
Finish your first small textile project (such as a scarfette or another small piece)
Create your first wearable garment - for example, a silk summer top or a warm vest for colder days, handmade by you, for you or someone special
FORMAT:
10 in-person classes in Nyon
90 minutes each
Weekly or every other week (schedule agreed together with participants)
Small group format (4-8 people)
Main language: English
50 chf per person per class
Everyone is welcome
We believe knitting is for everyone. The course welcomes people of all backgrounds, aesthetics, genders, cultures and ways of being who wish to enter the world of fibre arts.
---
We also provide other services, such as:
individual coaching sessions for more experienced knitters (speicific projects, advanced techniques eg intarsia, beading and emroidery on knits)
commissions (order a sweater or cardigan of your dream, tailored to your body, color and fiber preferences)
knitwear meding and repair (we probably can save that favorite sweater of yours!)
sessions for non-profits and businesses (learn to knit as a team activity, practice knitting as a grounding exercise or let's just talk about fiber arts and crafts as connected to labor rights, gender roles, environment and economic systems).
